My ones were definitely pretty ripe, I should have pulled them off the vine a day or three ago, I wasn't sure when the right time to harvest was.
Commercially the are removed from the vine the instant they start to turn red, I leave them on the vine until they are well red but get them before the birds do.
As for the split ones, cut them up into wedges and fry them with a bit of Mint sauce, they are amazing.
