can anyone link/recommend some standard replacement led bulbs for around home?

I see there are a number of variations in style, voltage, wattage etc & I don't know enough about electricity to not buy the wrong thing.

All bayonet fittings, looking for ~10 Bayonet & 2 screw type.

Just buy them locally. They are so cheap now. The only ones I bother getting from there are dirt cheap 12v MR16 replacements for outdoor lights and the wifi controlled ones. Other ones are likly to vary from what is pictured as the sellers change suppliers all the time, unless you go for one of the larger ones.

Good to know. I am always vary of third party Apple connectors [have never bought ONE that worked properly] ... now Android too!

Tried it again, and this time it's good. Works both ways up.

I think maybe first time round I hadn't plugged it in hard enough. [blush]

You can drop everything after the .html on aliexpress and banggood links, makes it more bareable for pasting on here.

Have had a similar set in the past and they lost their pairing when they were powered off, so would end up pairing to something random as its the first code it sees after a power cut.

Not wifi controlled, and with a wifi switch being $9-13ish I dont see the point in getting the retro style remote control ones like that.

I have ordered a few of these $7ish inline wifi switches to have a play with and will see how they go app wise etc. That seems to be what lets smart home stuff down. Look at wemo, hardware works fine. Software for the phone is a giant pile of lagging crashing turd.

I wouldnt recommend the Mi sockets - their AU socket has a shutter on it that is only opened by the earth pin, so useless for 90% of appliances which have a 2 pin AU plug on them. Alsoif you do get one, there are 2 versions of them, one is wifi, and one is their propriatary RF protocol back to their base station. Guess which I bought one of that is now useless to me.

These are the E27 LED Lamp 220v ones I got, but you'll be able to find B22 Bayond fittings for the same seller.

Seem pretty good, only slightly less bright than the 9w philips ones I have in the rest of my house.

Had an old sony micro system that had no bluetooth. Got one of these. Use the speakers from the micro system and damn it sounds a hell of a lot better without the silly fake bass processong of the sony amp. Awesome little amp if you have a couple of small speakers sitting around doing nothing.

These universal phone holders are awesome.

This one is great for the plane, desk, car, anywhere you want to hold your phone or anything else:

I use mine in my car to hold my phone onto the steering wheel (don't ask) and also when I fly to hold it on the head rest in front of me.

These are great for mounting your phone (or anything else) to a tripod mount. I use mine to secure my phone to a bike mount.

Also got these great holesaws - work a treat and $40 cheaper than bunnings:

And this live tester has made my DIY dealings a lot safer.

Wall anchors for hardiflex garage walls etc - although not too huge saving over handy warehouse in glenfield to deal with the delay in getting them.

Has anyone found an alternative source for the driller-toggle type wall anchors to bypass the gold-plated prices Mitre10/Bunnings charge? These are ones that don't expand out and break the gib, but rotate a metal plate 90 degrees as you drive in the screw to hold the anchor against the gib from the other side. I want to cry when I see Amazon selling a box of 50 for the price you'd pay here for half a dozen.

Have you ever considered that if you want to scroll through 1,100 listings for screws, the problem might be you rather than Aliexpress? :-).

You're taking fate in your own hands with SS screws from china. I haven't had mixed results with Chinese stainless steel screws because they've all been bad. Even locally retailed Chinese screws (*cough* Bunnings *cough* Trademe *cough*) are junk. Cr@ppy 316 SS = 1/3 popped heads, and all with surface rust.

I've got 302 stainless from Bunnings (for the simple reason that that was all I could find, I'd have preferred 316 from a NZ-owned company) and it's been fine so far, they're Zenith brand from ITW Proline. You'd be right in your assessment of 316 stainless from China, they're going for the most prestigious-sounding form in order to maximise the profit on the cadmium-plated screws they're shipping you. Having said that, the only time you'd really need 316 is for medical/food use and if you're assembling a reactor pressure vessel (even then, 316 does curious things in the presence of fast neutrons, and doesn't stay 316 for long). 302 should be just fine for most uses.

Im amazed at the price of the screws at bunnings. I am assuming there is a huge trade discount on them or something because they are way more expensive than handy warehouse, and I dont have a problem with screws from there having the heads pop off them, even when the impact driver is impacting virtually the entire depth of the screw while putting it in.

Oh no, Bunnings' screws are hand-turned on miniature lathes by craftsmen in a bazaar in Kandahar and then individually flown to NZ by trusted couriers carrying them on silk cushions. That's why they cost so much.

That second set look like the saws just screw onto the arbor rather than having a washer to hold them in place, can you still unscrew them after using them for drilling? It looks like the drilling action would tighten them more and more onto the arbor.
