I remember that Neflix spent a lot of money on their recommendations engine, and I was curious as to how the site interface works for you. Do you find that the titles you are shown on the main page are relevant to your interests?
I don't know if I've just confused the hell out of the system with my past ratings, but I find that many of the titles shown on the main page only have "Our best guess for you: 2 stars" etc. Why isn't my netflix page filled with titles it guesses I will rate 4 or 5 stars? If they guess these titles will only get 2 stars from me, why are they shown on my main page? Is it somehow in Netflix's best interest to encourage me to watch uninteresting movies?
I find when I read recommendations from others sources/blogs etc, and search for the titles myself, the 4 and 5 star movies are out there and it usually guesses that I'll rate them highly correctly. So why aren't these shown on my main page?
It just seems a bit.... disorganised. Your thoughts?
