someone commented to me a few months ago that NetFlix would melt the .nz internet down when it got here.

Reviewing the recent posts history today, it seems that has happened.

I wonder how long it will take to get every provider back on up to speed.

I know John posted a thread some where about performance in general, but it now seems that provider after provider are just having faults.

I've not seen so many congestion related threads for some time.

You need to know the connection type these end users are connected to, Think of those connected to a Conklin or ASAM hardware trying to stream Netflix , Youtube ETC..........

I am on a ADSL2+ connection here in Takapuna and cause of the distance from the exchange sync at just over 6Mbp/s and have used Netflix just about everyday since launch and have not noticed any slow down on the home broadband connection,

FYI not a VodafoneNZ xDSL fixed line connection

I don't understand the dynamics of who's going to pay to fix that problem.

Obviously the heat is on Chorus to sort out their service delivery equipment for their customers (Vodafone, Spark) but will they?

Is Vodafone and Spark going to pay more to keep a minority of customers happy or just wait until their RBI network is sorted out to be able to deliver service?

Of course I doubt that's a question you can comment on Johnr even if you have an answer and I'm guessing it's one that I'm just going to have to wait and see what happens.

It's interesting though.

Because I wanted to start a discussion and express a view about the number of threads in different provider forums v's a discussion about the actual issues of any specific provider.

It seems that all the majors are impacted.

I know Chorus doesn't have bottemless pockets.  What I'm interested to see is if they will choose to chase these customers eventually.

The cost of equipment goes down ever year.  The question I have is how many customers will Chorus gift to other providers?

Cost of hardware goes down then cost of licensing and labour and power goes up! Come on Don the cost of running a network is not just hardware in the real world

Melted? No
Speed wobbles yes

On my connection I have only noted small reductions in speed.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I'm quite certain Chorus would quite happily gift every Conklin customer in NZ to somebody else and would probably even pay money to get rid of them.

The problem is they can't.

Problem is, all the Shiny Things and Cool Services are built to run well in Cupertino etc where they have not had NZ internet speeds since 1995...!

I have not noticed much change (don't have any of the streaming services to check against though) but a few times web pages have taken longer to open than I would have expected recently and You Tube has stuttered a lot.
