Totally new to the online streaming entertainment.  Is netflix NZ worth it. I heard the Australian and American netflix sites are far better. Realise it's only $13 month and no contracts.

Thanks.

I think you can do a free trial... so do that and decide IMO.  What isn't worth it for others may be worth it for you, or vice versa.

I see that the new CBS Star trek series is coming to Netflix and it looks like we may  get it if Sky NZ hasn't already grabbed it..

Totally support the idea of giving Netflix a trial - literally nothing to lose for doing so!

Also, you may want to also trial Lightbox, which is the same price and also provides a month's free trial (I think?); it's also often offered free for a period of time (eg I got six months when I signed up with Bigpipe) or free on-going for Spark BB customers.

Personally, I'm less dedicated to Netflix since it became virtually impossible for us to consistently access the o/s Netflix catalogues, as the NZ selection is that much narrower, but at $13 a month it still offers good value for money if even just for its own shows (Orange is the New Black, Jessica Jones, Daredevil, House of Cards, Love, Bloodlines, Making a Murderer...).

There's some really good content on Lightbox that's not available on Netflix, eg Mr Robot; so much so that, come the end of our six-month free sub, I'd consider paying for both.

I got sick of playing whack-a-mole with Netflix geo blocking and switched to NZ version a couple of months ago, and it's fine. There is plenty of content to keep us busy.

I'm the same.  Been watching suits on NF NZ.  Orange is the new black was on there and others.  Annoyingly couldn't get Parks and Rec on there, but lightbox has it.  So between those two there's normally something to watch.

When I finish suits (or get to the latest series that lightbox has and NF doesn't yet) I may revisit my subscription.  But I prefer being able to watch NF via Roku3/ATV3 than Lightbox via ipad+ chromecast (and while I'm at work with my ipad, my son/wife can't use the chromecast without loading the apps on her phone and/or computer).  Picking up a remote much more convenient.

We're in the same boat. We also use Lightbox quite a lot too.

We do still parallel import some of our SVOD content, but the official NZ providers have definitely upped their content game.

Do you have to sign up for the free month just to see what their content is? There doesn't seem to be a list of movies/series anywhere on the site, which you'd think would be useful information for people making this decision.

Is House of Cards (Underwood, not Urquhart) on Netflix NZ?

Yes I think NZ Netflix is certainly worth the price of entry. Of course it depends what you are into but there are many shows and documentaries that I'm into on NZ region.

Trial is for a month so go for it.

Have never been a big movie person but they are certainly there

Although you have to make sure you cancel it before the end of the month if you don't want to continue to be billed, as you are signing up to an ongoing subscription.

True, but can't you "cancel" immediately upon signing up, and the sub will just remain active for the remainder of the period?
