There are rumours now that Amazon Prime Instant Video may be going global.

Note that there a few shows and movies that you can already stream outside the USA on Amazon Prime Instant Video - not sure how is this going to work though.

Important to see there's a distinction between Amazon Prime Instant Video (the all you can eat movie/TV service included in the Amazon Prime subscription that is similar to Netflix and Hulu) and the Amazon Instant Video (the rental/selling movie/TV service similar to iTunes).

I have Amazon apps on my smartphone and one good feature is the ability to download movies/TV to watch while offline - on a plane for example.

Great news for Amazon Fire TV users too.

I didn't know you could watch offline, that would have been VERY useful!

Except that whatever they are doing has broken the Fire TV currently. Prime members outside the US could end up with less content ala Netflix going global...

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Install the Amazon Video app. Connect your smartphone to a VPN (USA) and download the movie/TV you want. You don't need the VPN to watch. You can have up to ten files downloaded at a time.

With Amazon landing distribution in Aus maybe this means free shipping for us too

AFAIK The Man in the High Castle hasn't been licenced, guessing they're holding it back for launch

Just hope they don't do a Netflix to their global users  or Amazon Prime will not be renewed next year..  There's a lot of other stuff I watch on Amazon  rather than just the Amazon created stuff..

This was posted on the stuff website.

I aim to misbehave.

The Stuff story stated that Amazon has in Geoblocked a lot of its content, so, what does that currently give us here?

Wish they'd do an Apple TV App.

Watched the first episode of The Grand Tour via Airplay from my iPad, but would be much easier with a native App.

It seems right now that a lot more of the Amazon Prime content that was previously geoblocked is now accessible in NZ without a VPN or DNS service. The Amazon Video app now lists a number of shows (more than previously as far as I can see) that can be viewed while abroad.
