Despite our arguing I do agree with your concerns. Its all there to be great but we don't know, Sky we do know. One factor that also gave me a positive vibe is that OD is supported. Typically, you wait till tomorrow to see the OD.Thats no use. If you watched live, and there were issues, maybe Spark, maybe Japan, maybe the provider, you can get annoyed as we would, wait 10 minutes, and watch OD, as OD is available during the live stream. If you missed the start, watch OD from the start. To me, that's quite a biggie. While I obviously don't know the intricate details, I do know via the video that the provider in the US processes the stream. As we can watch that via OD from the start or later, you would expect that stream which is not now live, to be Netflix equivalent, just playing a pre recorded piece of content.

The big pluses of this offering, and to be fair Sky do offer this to what I believe to be a more limited manner, is that I can watch the RWC from anywhere at any time after the original is played. As you say OD. I can watch it at work, if things are quiet etc.

I am also unsure about the commentary. I know they managed to bring Scotty Stevenson across, however, I can really only take him in relatively small doses, where I could listen to the two senior guys comment till the end of time. I guess some matches will end up being commented by the Aussie group and a few of the Brits and so forth too.

Rest assured @talkiet Spark will get all the credit it's due from me, if Spark can deliver an experience at least as good as what I would have had from Sky or better. I think I am pretty fair like that. I am not, despite my airing my concerns, wishing for Spark to fail (in fact, I can't think of much worse in terms of sport than a poorly delivered world cup).

I do have concerns that Spark has underestimated the length of time to deliver an experience similar to that of Sky, at least in terms of where and how's it's viewed now. I hope I am wrong, and that Kiwi's will be able to see the RWC in all the same places they used to, and more.

Very fair points. I agree re Scotty. Smithy etc are great, commentary adds a lot. Facts, opinion and banter, it is the cream that makes any sport. I watch F1, MotoGP and ATP tennis, all have great commentators. It cant be just Scotty (maybe it might be? ), and if anything doesn't make the grade it will be the production side. If he has others (I'm sure there will be some big names), that will help.

Once its live inside a month, there is bound to be some RWC stuff on OD.

I think Spark will provide a 24x7 Linear feed for hotels pubs,clubs etc, as for bandwidth etc. In places that are already wired to distribute SKy to various tv's , via hdmi inputs or modulators etc it could be as simple as feeding the HDMI output of say a laptop or android device into the distribution setup.

Pubs / bars etc are an interesting case and something I've chatted to a few people about in recent months. It seems many are just suddenly realising that they'll need to make major changes to be able to stream the RWC which will in many cases mean new additional hardware and cabling to be able to do it.

Also licensing maybe different. Normally businesses need to pay more to show events.

$20 a month is reasonable. I'd be happy to pay that and maintain a Sky Sport subscription depending on what Sky come up with to counter. I think my Sky contract runs in out in March so that's fortuitous.

Price is competitive, certainly considering BEin is $20 a month for EPL Football (includes other leagues that I do not watch). I'll be signing up for the trial that's for certain and see how it performs from my 2degrees connection.

Not sure how they can counter, if you are into any sports Spark has that's it. Im going to look at MotoGP app, Im sure that's not geolocked, and what ATP Tennis offers. Possibly cancel Sky then

Complications abound. For example, if Spark's fallback plan is to transfer games to TVNZ's Duke channel in the event of a streaming failure, how will it define a failure? It will be fiendishly difficult to gauge if an issue is affecting a few loudmouths who have taken to social media, or is hitting everyone with a certain brand of smart TV or, say, every customer of a certain ISP. What percentage of viewers will have to be affected before Spark throws in the towel and transfers coverage to TVNZ? And who will make that call? Details will be revealed in April, Latch says.

Spark have opted to not confirm that so I wouldn't take it as gospel. I need to check and see if I can get Duke, just in case. It's not a channel I've ever used before I don't think.

I believe it was used to show some squash during the commonwealth games, but I think it was online that I watched the same content from that channel rather than on my TV.
