Did anyone else get the invitation to complete the customer satisfaction survey? I filled it out quite honestly, including a bit of a serve in the 'other comments' section regarding the quality, my (now wasted) big screens tv's and the lack of smart tv apps.

I did a while ago. Really large response in many of the boxes explaining why I won't use it but I never had a reply or indiciation that they had listned. Disappointing really. Even now there are still no TV apps, HD stream or the ability to integrate with other devices (ROku, media centres etc.).

Unbelievably amateurish and such an opportunity lost to gain a credible competitor to Sky.

I even said offer it on the TV, via an API for integration in to other devices and in HD and I would forget the fact that it would cost me more than I had to watch footy and sub...

It's funny - the free passes were sent out to email addresses that never signed up, but those who did the "current subscriber" survey (which was a lot shorter) simply went into the draw for a free pass to give to a friend.

I had major problems with the City-Spurs game. It seemed to keep resetting to the start. It kept jumping back to spurs kicking off. Must have happened half a dozen times.

Well this is starting to become unusable on my Android Tablet and iPad.now. On the iPad the screen blanks out with a message on screen says 'the network does not have enough bandwidth' etc etc. After a while the stream just stops and I have to restart the app.

On the Android tablet it will now only stream at 800kbps, anything faster and it stops and starts every 30 seconds or so.

The stream is coming off our own Akamai cluster (which is not over subscribed) so I can only assume the problem is upstream *sigh*

Mine is streaming fast but this post highlights a key issue for Coliseum and every other provider who uses Akamai - the performance around the country seems to vary. Only Akamai (and those customers they share the details with) will know whether issues are with over subscription, seeding the cluster or even just managing the manifest file contents to achieve a certain loading.

It is my understanding that there is a 64 kbps stream for the iPad with a text message about insufficient bandwidth so this might be what is being seen rather than a message generated within the app. Either way it seems there are major issues with insufficient bandwidth from this cluster.

I do not know how Akamai distributes this content. It might withhold the streams until there is a user request and if these are the first then the process of loading the cluster might be managed by adapting the manifest files to only advertise which rates are deemed ready. When the user rate varies, perhaps due to local access conditions, there is also the challenge of seeding the multiple rates. With the full range of rates and platforms there is a lot of content - for tablets a total of 8 rates may be 7.5 Mbps and add the PC versions I guess over 12 Mbps. Perhaps the lowest rates get loaded first?

I guess as PLP keeps saying on Twitter, talk to the helpdesk and ask them what is happening. This performance seems really sick.

I could barely watch the game the other day - was watching live, Airplaying from iPad to ATV and it was so bad I couldn't tell who the players were even on close-ups!

It was like a fuzzy Minecraft game...

It's a shame to read that they still haven't solved their problems. These where some of the reasons I was put off (apart from the lack of HD) and if they continue I won't be subbing.

Has anyone tried their helpdesk to get answers as their twitter account is normally just talking about games rather than the technical issues.

Whilst I am not happy with the overall quality of the PLP product and the fact that it is less than what I was able to recieve last season via SkyTV, I have to say that I watch the Premier League games using an iPad, wi-fi streaming to my AppleTV, connected to a 55" Samsung LED TV, and the picture quality & stream consistancy is usually rock solid and very watchable...?? The only difference appears to be that I rarely watch matches live, usually a few hours later....

If you live near Christchurch, I would happily give you a demo...

This points to the fact that quite a few users are recieving vastly different levels of service, even when using similar equipment. I am not convinced that the PLP service is necessarily the problem in all cases, as there are lot of variables between their servers and our screens, (eg. PoP distance, ISP quality, router speeds, wi-fi set up, ect). This is something I think PLP have massively overlooked, in that they have very little control over the quality of the delivery mechanism once the stream leaves their servers, and I cannot see how they could have any real confidence about the quality of their product once it reaches us subscribers...! There are just too many variables....
