Watching CFC v SAFC in lego mode...I'm on 3G (Good signal) and am probably going to use up over 1GB for this S****, NOT HAPPY!

I am not convinced that the PLP service is necessarily the problem in all cases, as there are lot of variables between their servers and our screens, (eg. PoP distance, ISP quality, router speeds, wi-fi set up, ect). This is something I think PLP have massively overlooked, in that they have very little control over the quality of the delivery mechanism once the stream leaves their servers, and I cannot see how they could have any real confidence about the quality of their product once it reaches us subscribers...! There are just too many variables....

I totally agree this is very complex. Judging by the recent posts (here and Twitter) the overall experience today continues to be a problem for some and I believe some of the issues are beyond the user local access.

I have looked through several games on the PC and they stream ok when fixed at 3000 kbps. However, closer inspection of the streams show that while a lot of the packets are coming from the Telecom Akamai CDN, a large number of the packets are being fed from Limelight in Sydney. The PC Flash player has this backup stream option and it seems to need it. For some games in the past I have seen over 80% being sourced from Sydney rather than the local CDN

If I go to Android, the picture quality varies on auto, is overall not terrible but at times drops to 800 (occasionally 400) and if fixed to 1600 I get pauses. On the iPad it is only auto and a lot of the time is getting 1600 but at times drops to 800 or even 400. Neither of these tablet streams seems to be able to jump to an alternative CDN like Limelight.

This is my experience on one ISP in this part of the country. Other experience will vary - lots. Since I wrote the above, I have just had several minutes stuck at 400 on the iPad stream and it looked terrible. A speedtest to Telecom at the same time (after it started at 400) gave 5.0 Mbps and I usually get 5.6 Mbps. Even if I take the advice posted elsewhere that 7 Mbps is needed I don't believe 5.6 Mbps capacity should equate to 400 kbps stream.

I continue to believe that there are limitations within the CDN systems here in NZ for delivery of this type of content. Whether that is due to commercially driven limitations or poor performance by Akamai and/or NeuLion only they (and their customers like PLP) will know.

And during all of this, Al Jazeera Sport gets better and their HD channel gets more consistant (according to my friends who have it). I find it troubling that the main way to get EPL in this country is severly problematic for many people. It is not what I call good service, even if some of the problems are outside of PLPs reach.

AJS and PLP have the same problem for me and that is they're web based with only a browser (or tablet) way to watch rather than smart TV or other implementation however if I sign up next season it would be with Al Jazeera as they have far more leagues and sports for a cheaper price than PLP.

With unencrypted content I have seen it simply hand the stream over to the Airplay device so exactly the same bandwidth used on WiFi as any other device (except for small amount of control) but perhaps there is extra bandwidth needed when encryption is used?

Surely encrypted airplay is the same? Once its come in to the Ios device, it should simply be a matter of handing off to the other device, even if it reqiures more bandwidth that should simply be in terms of internal wi-fi network therefore a 3mpbs stream requires about 9mbps or around 1MB/s which is doable without trouble on 54g!

This has to be the most ridiculous thing I've ever read - bandwidth/external internet connection speed has absolutely no bearing on the quality of your airplay/wifi inside your own local network - if I had 10Mbps down I wouldn't need 30Mbps down because I'm using wifi/airplay within my local network - just nuts. They may have meant if you're streaming from a mobile device on 3G/4G but I'm not sure why that would make a huge difference either.

On the issue of quality etc. I have 100/50 UFB from Snap and my streaming when using one of the free passes last month was dreadful - stream quality continually changed and even at the best quality was difficult to watch. This was direct on my desktop and also via iPad - I have an ASUS RT-AC66U wireless router and regardless of distance or whether I was connected via 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz the quality was rubbish. NFL and MLB on the other hand are really good through desktop and iPad/iPhone. They have some serious improvements to make before I shell out money to them and I also will look at Al Jazeera Sport for next year.

Still liking PLP over sky. Use it mostly off my laptop directly. 1600kps does seem smoother than 3000 which is a little annoying because the sound is so much better with 3000.
1600 on android tablet was ok too, tried the Galaxy S4 app on 1200 but it got so hot I couldn't hold it lol.
Platinum pass worth it for all the extra content.

What is it that you like? I can understand if it is a team that was not featured that much, I get that but at the moment through all the day passes I've had I cannot find anything good to say about the service.

well, the mobility of watching PL on the web, not having to pay sky for anything other than PL mostly.
But I think I would hate it too if I tried to connect my TV to it, I just live on my laptop - don't have a TV.
