djrm: I hate the fact that all these media companies release the iOS before Android eventhough Android now has the market share! Just hope that it is better than iSky.

http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/HL1311/S00111/android-hits-81-smartphone-market-share-windows-grows.htm

it's the cost of fragmentation of android devices, with different screen sizes and firmware versions.

it's not better than isky, as there is now a 2 device registration limit.

This was interesting in the weekly email today:

We're likely to be testing some HD feeds over the Christmas period on the platform, so if things seem different to you, that is likely to be the reason. From the tests we've been doing it looks really good, and we're slowly getting comfortable enough to roll it out. The feed will be coming down at 4500kbps, so if you see that in the stream quality box on the player, that's what's happening. This has been a big request from a lot of you so we're happy to be getting somewhere with it, but for heaven's sake, please be careful with your data caps if that's a concern. You can manually change down to 3000 at any time using the player.

Hmmm.. I'd be interested to see how this looks and also whether it performs any worse that the other streams from the CDN.

Has there been any news on Smart TV support yet?

I'm assuming the stream being airplayed from my iPad is the 4500 one. I think it looks good. Haven't actually watched a full game in awhile but the bit of the villa game I saw last week I recall the judder was present, I haven't seen any judder in the game today. I airplayed a bit through my phone but it couldn't settle on a bitrate, the iPad settled on what I assume is the 4500 and it looks great.

For me it run much smoother under Firefox than Chrome, give it a try

Anyone know why Android gets no 4500kbps love?

TIGER PREMIER LEAGUE PASS (PREMIERLEAGUEPASS.COM) NOW AVAILABLE IN HD

Tomorrow (24/12/13) Tiger Premier League Pass (PremierLeaguePass.com) will launch its new HD option with the live Arsenal vs Chelsea Barclays English Premier League game at 09.00hrs (NZST).

The HD option will be free to all subscribers, including new Month and one-off Day Pass subscribers, for all content including both live and on-demand games.

The HD feature is completely optional as subscribers will naturally require a consistently fast internet connection to carry a steady 4500 kbps HD stream to screen. And a full 90 min game in HD will take approximately 3.2GBs of data. To this end, some subscribers will need to optimise their set up to accommodate the data consumption and get the very best out of this this HD streaming option, says Tim Martin, CEO at Coliseum Sports Media.

“The 4500 kbps stream is available on iPad and PC. But for the best viewing experience we would recommend Telecom Ultra Broadband and watching on iPad, air playing through Apple TV; which is ravishing.

‘We are really happy that our free HD option kicks off just in time for fans to be able to pick from 30 live games over the festive, football season (26/12/13 – 01/01/14). Boxing Day and New Year’s Day both have 10 great games lined up for the fanatics amongst us and the Arsenal vs Chelsea game itself, is set to be a Christmas Eve cracker!

“As an evolving product with the connected consumer at our core, we are continually adapting to our subscribers needs by applying on-going innovation to the content itself and how it is delivered. The more freedom we can give fans on what they want to watch; where they want to watch; when they want to watch and how they want to watch it; the more relevant and better the viewing experience is”, Martin concludes.

But I don't want to watch the match at 4500kbps on my iPad - for me and probably a lot of people that's just a waste of bandwidth.  I wonder why they won't give us a speed selector like they do on the PC?

I've been watching games regularly and I've found that 1600kbps from my PC to my 40" TV gives me the best performance.  I tried both the 3000 and 4500 streams at the weekend and they still suffer with motion judder.

Procrastination eventually pays off.
