I watched the Man City game and was quite impressed with teh overall picture quality, but also suffered motion jitters.

Watched on my 2012 iMac.

There was a little bit of judder on today's 4500 streams but know where near as bad as yesterday

I've been watching games regularly and I've found that 1600kbps from my PC to my 40" TV gives me the best performance.  I tried both the 3000 and 4500 streams at the weekend and they still suffer with motion judder.

So his recomendation for using his product to it's full potential is something that a high proportion of his customers will probably not be able to access anywhere from 1 to 5 years.

What? You mean most customers won't have an iPad and AppleTV? That must be what you mean because no-where did it say Fibre was required, or even VDSL. As someone intimately familiar with our network and quite familiar with the delivery mechanism for EPL, most customers DO in fact have an internet connection good enough to watch the HD stream today. (But yes, it was right to flag how much data a game will use at the highest level!)

So you are saying that the picture will stream perfectly for every minute of every match I would watch?

I doubt that even sky would have been able to guarantee that...

i have had used NFL gamepass streaming 4500 for 2 years now and never once had the stream buffer or stop or anything go wrong with a game, i click on play and 5-10 seconds later im watching the game and for the first year i was on ASDL 2, i use 6-7 GB a game.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

My rough calculations (4500kbps x 60seconds x 120minutes) means you'll use about 3.9gb watching a game on PLP at 4500kbps based on it being 2 hours.

watching Arsenal Chelseas game now through airplay from my ipad, looks good like the United game the other morning. Lucky we just increased our internet plan to 150gb!

I asked the question why I can't change the bit rate on the iPad app and this is the reply from Coliseum;

We'd love to be able to offer a bitrate selector via iOS but our hands are tied when it comes to building video apps for Apple as you have to use their player which does not enable such things. If things change at Apple in the future we'll definitely ad the option.

I suppose the other option is for them to have two links/buttons per game - Hi and Low.  I'll see what they say.

I have no idea what your individual connection is like, so no, there's no way I'm saying that.

I am saying for MOST people, it will be fine.

Meanwhile 1600Kbps is still the best viewing experience, because it's so much smoother lol

Forgive me if this has already been mentioned: regarding UFB and VDSL.

I contacted PLP to ask where there servers are, which stream the product. unbelievably they didn't know the answer to this, but they said their service provider was in the USA. OK.
So this is my question. Will UFB fix the slow feeds some people experience?

I have access to a UFB connection at work. I did three speed tests, AKL, SYD and New York, which is where PLP say on their website to run a test.
AKL was 90mb SYD was 50 MB. NYC was 6 MB.

This is where I wonder if UFB will fix the problems. I am led to believe there is no fibre or high speed connection between NZ and the USA, or the rest of the world for that matter. Only Australia.
So while PLP use a service provider based in the USA, its unlikely we will ever be able to experience the lighting fast speeds that UFB touts. Except for services hosted in NZ or AU?

Any comments?

It's a complex and well thought out system. I'm not sure how much I can say about the actual design, but I will say that for Telecom Retail customers at least, the vast majority of video data is served from NZ servers and provided there are no other bottlenecks in the way (Your PC, your xDSL connection or Chorus handovers), the streaming experience should be excellent.

If you have your DNS servers set correctly that is!

:)

Thanks. Would this scenario also apply to ADSL 2. Which I presently have at home. Which is a bit slow. This is a Slingshot connection.
And does a simple speedtest, actually tell the full story?
