gunnerpc: Last night I watched a movie on igloo for the first time. It streamed over wifi.
I was impressed with the quality, no lag and it appeared to be HD.

For me the thing to note is it streamed over WIFI with no lag.
When I try to watch plp @ 3000k over WIFI, its pretty rough.

Why oh why.... This is my question.

I suspect the bit rates between Igloo and PLP @ 3000 are quite different.

The Igloo FAQ says "A typical movie can use between 550MB and 1.5GB to stream."  This would suggest a rate around 1.6 Mbps (45 mins, very short movie, to 2 hours) or even less (e.g. 1.2 Mbps for 60 minutes to 165 minutes).  When I look at Sky Go on demand content it is averaging around 1.45 Mbps for me and looks adequate quality but not HD.  It is possible Igloo have increased the rates from what they suggest in the FAQ.

I doubt Igloo via the Internet is HD (720p) but with DRM it is harder to tell what is being used.  Igloo say there is some HD content but only mention TV 1,2,3 (here).

WiFi can be painful to assess especially if the display device is portable without diagnostic tools.  You state the Igloo box is getting content via WiFi.  What device is being used for PLP ?

I can see pauses on this game that seem to be prior to final encoding as they remain in the same place, on different rates, even when replaying the same section.  The upside down logo is weird ....

Not a great experience watching Southampton vs Arsenal this morning, the stream keeps switching between 800, 1600 and (very occasionally) 3000. Guess PLP servers are a bit bandwidth starved with all the simultaneous live games.

Could've been the pace and awesomeness of The Saints affecting the stream - it was simply left breathless by the whole ordeal.

620MB download and 550MB upload speeds

And I still have choppy, stuttering playback.

Anyone happen to have a spare 24 hour day pass? Doesn't seem to be an Arsenal TV screening of the game against United on Sky tomorrow, just an MUTV and a jittery picture would be better than having to listen to Pat Crerand!

But Paddy Crerand isn't biased....ha ha ha ha.

I can't watch MUTV as a result of that man.

Thought i would make a account to help people that suffer from juddering streams with the 4.5k stream i had this problem
here is what i did first remember the new flash player 12 and other version do not perform as good as the older versions

see here for benchmarks juddering http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1380351  as you can see flashplayer 12 is really bad

download google chrome use that its best imo Install this flash player version fp_11.2.202.233_archive which can be found here http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/archived-flash-player-versions.html

open up Google Chrome enter this in the chrome://plugins/ click details and disable pepflashplayer.dll now close that and install the flash player 11 you just downloaded

login to prempass right click on the stream untick hardware accelerator

and you should be good to go best to get on the streams as soon as they go live so the player has time to buffer in and after that it should run smooth
