Sorry if this has come up before but as this a "few" pages to wade through I'll bring it up again.

Has anyone been able to have success with PLP on the web browser of a smart TV?

My Dad has just got a 3D smart tv and I saw some of TV ones coverage of Arsenal this afternoon up scaled to "3d". It was very impressive so I tried to access PLP on his browser and it looks like it's going to work but the game image just freezes after a few seconds and never starts up again.

I have been trying PLP on airplay to Apple TV but the bloody airplay keeps dropping out (on all airplay not just PLP)

You can access it but it's awful quality as the processing power is all being done by the TV CPU which is pretty low spec. Still waiting for the oft promised App.........…...yeah right.

So is anyone else annoyed about PLP playing a movie trailer over the beginning of the half time show?  Also, are PLP subject to the Broadcasting Standards because the trailer for Pompeii definitely wasn't suitable for general audiences, like my 5 year old who was very upset by it!

Does anyone know if the capital one cup final (league cup) will be broadcast in NZ.

Sommet had rights up to the final, but not the final and aren't showing it.

Any suggestions where it might be watched as an alternative?

Bit of a joke if no network or PLP show this in NZ....

I have "now TV" which is UK sky sports on Apple TV. Anyone know if this will work using overplay smart DNS or do they use other blocked methods?

Thanks

Suggestions as to other threads this could be put on also appreciated as I'm a newbie!

Just received:

Samsung Electronics New Zealand Partners with Coliseum Sports Media for English Premier League Rights

Today Samsung Electronics New Zealand and Coliseum Sports Media Ltd (CSM) announced a new partnership that will now bring Barclays English Premier League soccer to Samsung Smart TVs, smartphones, and tablets.

The deal makes Samsung the exclusive Smart TV partner for Tiger PremierLeaguePass.com until 2016.

CSM has built a dedicated application for Samsung devices in association with the Samsung SportsFlow app. Tiger Premier League Pass Presented by Samsung SportsFlow will deliver HD access to all live games and highlights, with content available to all 2012 through to 2016 Samsung Smart TV customers.

The Samsung Smart TV app is scheduled for release before the end of the current EPL season.

In addition to the exclusive Smart TV deal, Samsung smartphone and tablet users will have access to an exclusive 30 day free trial to Tiger PremierlLeaguePass.com, this offer is live from today. For new subscribers, the Android Premier League Pass application will only be available on Samsung devices.

“We’re really excited to have secured Barclays English Premier League content on our devices,” said Jon Barrell, Sales Director Consumer Electronics, Samsung New Zealand. “The deal showcases our drive to give our New Zealand customers the best content experiences on the best devices in the market. Our continued goal is to provide unprecedented access on Samsung Smart TVs, smartphones, and tablets to the sports and entertainment content people want to watch.”

"We want to provide the best content possible to New Zealand sport fans. Our partnership with Premierleaguepass.com makes good on this promise", added Barrell.

Tim Martin, CEO at Coliseum Sports Media, sees this exclusive deal with Samsung Smart TVs as another innovative step to continually adapt to subscriber needs.

“With the connected consumer at our core, Tiger PremierLeaguePass.com will continue to collaborate, innovate and adapt to ensure we are constantly delivering live, relevant and compelling viewing experiences for the fan, at a fair price,” said Martin.

“Bringing our content under the Samsung banner allows us to develop a better platform to deliver sports media, and to more rapidly introduce higher quality HD steams and other technological improvements we’re making to Tiger PremierLeaguePass.com. This exciting deal with Samsung Smart TVs is all about delivering just that – more sport to more sport fans, when they want it and how they want it, and all from a single source!”

So no love for the Apple Tv coming any time soon.

I wonder if Samsung will push to disable Airplay from Apple devices?

Can they actually do that?  PLP have already said that the best way to watch is via airplay - they won't allow that to be disabled as it will reduce their consumer base and remove what is reported to be the best method of access.  Both feet would be shot!!

Interesting question. I suppose it depends on the nature of their contract with Samsung. I'd have thought that allowing airplay would primarily be a licensing issue between PLP and the Premier League. Seeing as they're always going on about making themselves as accessible as possible it would leave quite a sour taste if they suddenly started signing exclusivity deals that isolate existing customers. I'm even more interested in the bit about only making the android app available to Samsung devices-I didn't know that was even possible, and it certainly doesn't seem like PLP had the upper hand in the negotiations!

While I still hate that I have to pay more to watch the footy, the TV app will tempt me now...

Sky had the rights to screen the Final

So for those of us without Samsung devices, all the more reason to not give them any money. Give me a way to watch it in HD on my LG smart TV and I'll pay for it. Been happy enough with Sky up to now but having to wait until 9pm (or really 10.30pm one all the other stuff they show has finished) for the last 2 Arsenal games has been very furstrating - one of which I couldn't avoid the result for as I had my own football game in the afternoon where of course everyone talked about the results from overnight.

Have sent them an email to ask whether this confirms there will not be an app for LG TVs or games consoles.

Ah the wish for platform agnostic content, that would be so nice. I'm a little happier that it will be on my Samsung TV, but at the same time I'm still pissed that it will cost me more to watch my team again and that it is still restricted to a small number of platforms. I really wish they would open up the connection API so people can develop plugins for multiple devices, be it TVs, tablets, phones to homebrew devices, roku's etc.

I have been waiting for the Smart TV app all season. My concern now is that my TV won't be included as it is a 2011 model. The same thing has happened with the new TV3 on demand app.

Airplay from my PLP app mysteriously stopped working (see my thread on streaming services) about two weeks ago! Do I smell a rat?
