You would think that Samsung would understand the difference between their 2012 and 2013 models - I can understand those with 2012 models not working being upset

That seems quite clear to me. It means that the app introduced at the end of the 2013-2014 season is only compatible with 2013 and 2014 Samsung TVs, but that it will be updated for the 2014-2015 season to make it compatible with 2012 TVs as well.

I agree the update gives the more extended time frame. However, when Samsung announce a feature in March saying "will deliver HD access to all live games and highlights, with content available to all 2012 through to 2016 Samsung Smart TV customers" without any caveat like "by the way it won't work on 2012 models until next season" I'd be rather annoyed if I was trying to get a 2012 set working only to be told later come back next season.

As an aside, when I purchased the TV recently at Harvey Norman they couldn't show me any NZ apps from the Samsung store. There was SBS and Big Pond loaded but when we searched for TVNZ OnDemand - nothing. Seems their store IP address geo-locates to Australia ! I doubt this is the issue for others here but it seems a minefield with different models and what apps will run. I suggest asking PLP and/or Samsung whether a specific model is supported.

I think the apps that are available are entirely dependent on the location that's set on the TV itself. Luckily, you can change this to pretty much any country you want. Here's how:

Press the Smart Hub button on the remote control
When Smart Hub has loaded then press », 2, 8, 9, « (fast forward, 2, 8, 9, rewind). Please not that new F-series Samsung TVS have a different way of changing app store. Please take a look at our other tutorial here.

Default apps for the region will be installed and old apps deleted
Once Smart Hub has rebooted your can install apps from the new region as you please

So using it for free for the last round I had the same issues as the previous time I got a free 24 hour pass. Connected laptop to TV via HDMI and the picture quality was perfect but had a lot of motion judder which made it almost feel like it was filmed on a handheld camcorder. Kind of like when on the news they play clips that have clearly come from internet streams. On the laptop itself it's perfect, but I want to watch it on my 42 inch TV.

The HDMI cable should be fine as it's pretty much brand new - it's the one that came with my PS4 in January and there are no issues with the PS4 (I just pulled it out of that to use it for this). My TV is an LG 42LM6200, full HD with TruMotion 120Hz. My laptop's graphics card is ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650. I tried toggling Hardware Acceleration between on/off but neither made any difference. Would like to test it out a bit more while the login is still active and before deciding whether to subscribe next season. So for anyone more technical than me, are there any other settings I could tweak on either the TV or laptop that might make a difference to the judder? Or is this just not a suitable way to get this content from laptop to TV?

I have my laptop resolution on 720p and stream at 1600kbps. HDMI connected to a 40" 2013 model Samsung TV - this gives me the smoothest results with picture quality high enough to see faces in the crowd. Higher resolution and frame rate gives me the judder issue.

I will be renewing next season and hoping that the app will be available on my TV by then.

Whilst I still disagree with what PLP have done, espcially by going only with Samsung, I need my footy fix (despite my clubs poor attempt this season!). As I normally watch the games at 5am so I can know the result before work, are you able to start games that are currently in progress at the beginning of the game instead of the live point? I recall reading in an earlier page that you couldn't and that if you joined a game that was live in NZ at 5am at 5.30am you would have missed 30 minutes and couldn't start at the beginning until the game had finished... Is this still the case?

The last time I treid this, a couple of months ago, this was still the case. Really frustrating that you can't start from the beginning!

That to me is a killer for those 4pm kick offs. If I don't watch the game before work on a monday morning I won't watch it as I know the score and I will skip to the goals...

Hi, I've hit this scenario myself and found that: You can join a live match and (on mute) quickly grab the position indicator and drag it back to the beginning (or any previous point in the match). Worked pleasingly well :)
I believe from memory this isn't possible on iphone/android app though, only through a browser. (no experience with Samsung tv app)

You don't actually miss 30 minutes of the game, but what it does do is start the feed at the live point where you can drag the slider bar back to the beginning.

That said however, depending on how far into the game it is, that could still spoil the game for you as you may be so close to the end that not much is likely to change!

I haven't seen the TV app yet - I'd like to know that also. Whether they will "fix" that problem is anyone's guess - I would say unlikely. I've also asked for a change to the website so that you can choose a lower definition feed when watching on the iPad. For some reason they decided that a 4500kbps feed is necessary for an iPad!!! Perhaps adding another link to the start of the game alongside the "Watch Live" link should be a suggestion too.

I may make those suggestions again when I get a chance - they have around 4 months to sort stuff our before the season starts again.

Developable and necessary skill as a football fan! Especially in NZ.

Just start by furiously clicking in the bottom left hand corner of the screen as it loads, make sure it's on mute, and stare at something just off the screen. One other useful tip is for someone else that you 'accidentally' woke up, to set it up for you.

I love peripheral vision! (Hate having to cover my ears and say ahhhhlalalalalaaaaa at work cos of stupid co-workers).

I developed most of this experience/skill with mysky or even vcr, so don't blame PLP.

The link for starting from the beginning or live makes sense though :) but when you need live it needs to be live so that is the priority.

It should be built in, not a skill we need to learn. When Sky had the rights, you hit record, even if you got up 1/2 way through, you could just go to planner and press select on the part record and it would start from the beginning. Have the ability to stream a live event from the beginning of the recording doesn't make the recording any less live; in fact I'd suggest that as their recording anway, why do we not have the option to join in live or at the beginning.
