DS9: I wouldn't be surprised if Sky launches a dedicated Premium Football channel, either Skysport Football or BeIn Sports.

I hope I am wrong though and the Premier league is just added as part of the Skysport package.

BeIn sells an add-on package in Australia so if offered as a separate channel like BeIn Sports, itd be mirroring what is offered there.  You can add it to Foxtel or FetchTV (Optus) or get it streamed direct.  Pretty much like adding Rialto to the Sky package - its not owned by Sky, just billed by Sky.  [Or any premium channels in the US, like HBO or Showtime - not owned by the cable provider, just billed by the cable provider].

I would love to see a channel created for the purpose of international football, however in the UK they have Sky Sport 5 launched back in 2014 dedicated to Football, seeing as in the UK their national game is Football it might be hard to create that excitement here, Rugby would be great here, open up the Rugby Channel, HD it and add all international matches etc.. special magazine shows.   Football Soccer might be a little hard to reach audiences here, although I am a huge fan.

I hope whoever broadcasts the EPL, they do it professionally, in Full HD 100%, and easy on demand access and other shows throughout the year. The Lightbox Sport venture has not worked and it's failed. Although represents how we should watch sport and no doubt has contributed to the creation of FanPass, a platform to watch sport on devices in HD (720).

Do you think the people behind LightboxSports can make RugbyPass work?  Or is it trying to get a minority sport working in non-rugby markets using a relatively low-cost delivery platform?

Thanks for repeating my point about beIN Sports being a premium channel (I very much doubt anyone on here needed to be told), also it would probably be NZ based as I doubt the Aussie version would have equal Aus/NZ broadcast rights. At the moment Skysport has the NZ broadcast rights to most of beIN sports rebroadcasts (that is why the beIN watermark is still on the transmission).

I aim to misbehave.

Sorry, my bad.  To me a premium sports channel is one that is an add-on to a sports channel.  Like the Rugby Channel - cant get it unless you have SkySport. Contrast that to Rialto or Arts or Soho which are premium channels but you dont need to have Movies or any other element to add them to your package.

I'm hoping its the latter rather than compelling people to have all the sports to watch football.

Optus has announced its pricing for the coming 2016-17 season.

If you're an Optus customer and spend more than $85/month on a plan - its free.

If you're an Optus customer and spend less than $85/month - its an additional $15/month for your EPL.

If you're not an Optus customer - you get one game per week on SBS.

No chance for Kiwis to stream out of Australia, unless you can make yourself and Optus subscriber or know someone who is.  And with the demise of PLP it's going to be more difficult for the Australians to leech the content from NZ.  Tough times ahead for EPL fans in this part of the world.

Do we know if we're getting any form of coverage for the new season?  I haven't heard anything from Sky yet.

Dunno.  But Sky hasnt yet confirmed that its showing the Anzac League test on Friday night - so any announcement on EPL could be weeks away!

Plenty of Aussies are suddenly wishing Foxtel had the EPL for next year.  And plenty of media commentary about how the big-bundle on paytv suddenly starts looking good value given the disaggregation of content.  You want to watch EPL on the big screen in Australia - thats $2160 over 24 months.  Just for one sport.  Ouch.

Foxtel should do what sky did here and get the delayed channels.

But it just goes to show scudamore and his mates are just about the money. Sell rights to company doesn't exist here and to rip off merchants in Australia. And make it either a phone or pay a extorted fee if want how ardent fans watch it

Here is hoping optus lose money and the person who brought the rights gets the sack

Foxtel have done a Sky - adding the clubs directly.  Optus must have expected this sort of response though.

"Chelsea TV, LFCTV and MUTV are an addition to the Foxtel Sports pack, adding to the existing 12 sports channels at no extra cost.

The channels will air all six teams’ home and away Premier League matches on delay, with those that kick off at 3pm GMT on Saturdays available to Foxtel viewers from 1pm AEST on Sundays."

Looks like BEin have screwed up with the NZ rights.  Because they didn't win some other major pacific areas (e.g. OZ) they can't create the premier league hub they wanted, as a result it appears they have tried to resell the rights but at substantially more than what they're worth in NZ and far more than what Coliseum paid for them 3 years ago.  Sky have indicated that they're still negotiating but BEin are pricing them out and their valuations are quite far apart...

So, looks like no full live premier league at all for the next season and maybe even the next two after that unless BEin drop their valuation... Sky might have the main club tv channels but then you're on delayed coverage by at least 12 hours.

Why can't they set-up an NZ version of BEin and do what PLP did ? They have won the rights so should use them or loose them. Not fair on the fans

I subscribe to LFCTV GO, about $10 a month NZD, sure its not having the live matches I wanted but is a great companion to have and has full featured EPL World shows not just from a Liverpool perspective and gives me that fix. Not fancy but a good investment because the proceeds go to the club.

I do hope that someone picks up the rights here in NZ. June is when the announcement was made for SKY loosing the rights in 2013 so we should start to see something around then?

Unless BEin drop their price, it seems unlikely.  PLP have said they're not able to and have withdrawn.  Sky have said that the numbers are not there to bid high but would like it if they could get a deal with BEin; apart from them, who else could come in at this late stage?  If we lose out on the premier league for 3 years then it will be very disappointing and I will send a letter to the FA indicating this... Not that it will do much!

So if internet delivery hasn't worked out for EPL, does someone know how it is going for the PGA golf?

Not having a great internet connection, and in the past enjoying casual viewing of the golf in the weekends, we would love for it to return to Sky TV...
