I really hope Sky gets the rights. I would get Sky if they have Premier league.

So if internet delivery hasn't worked out for EPL, does someone know how it is going for the PGA golf?
Not having a great internet connection, and in the past enjoying casual viewing of the golf in the weekends, we would love for it to return to Sky TV...
PGA Golf and LPGA is tied up for at least another season. European Tour was relinquished and is now on Sky.

DS9: Since Sky already had an ongoing relationship with BeIn Sports (European and Championship football), I suspect Sky will get a deal done, though for commercial reasons (delay as long as possible), I think we will find out at the last minute.
I agree. They will play chicken and wait for each other to blink, and probably agree in August. If Bein completely refuse to offer it then they make no money at all, and Sky are in a bad place at present with churn and a falling share price, so they need to offer an enhancement to their stable of sport; so somewhere in the middle will be a deal that neither like but that is better for both than no deal at all.
What I hope does not happen is a deal with an NZ ISP (e.g. one only of Spark, Vodafone, Slingshot etc.) where it is bundled to their subscribers only. Like Optus are doing in Australia.

Probably not too good since duke now has golf coverage. The tvnz pop up channel had a few tournaments last year, but it was generally only the first two rounds live. Duke has the last two rounds live for the next few weekends.
TVNZ has a relationship with LightboxSport - hence the EPL games are on TVNZ. And the Golf has been on TVNZ Popup (now Duke). The PGA should remain on Duke for the duration of the LightboxSport contract (5 years from 2015). The key will be whether PGA remains on LightboxSport beyond that - ie whether the contract gets renewed. Or whether LightboxSport choke on yet another sport.

As mentioned back in February, PLP is gone now...

The premise was good, pricing was 'meh' for a single sport and teh quality was very very poor. Out of BEin and PLP I would have backed PLP, but I'm now hoping we get EPL back on Sky in decent HD so I can watch it on my TV.
I'll actually be quite sad to see PLP go, sure it had its issues and the quality wasn't always great but i got to see my team every game, which as a smaller team follower sky hadn't done for me over the course of its tenure.
I'll be genuinely disappointed if Sky do get it, unless they can offer a service similar to what PLP had somewhere in the region of $200 for the season, but i can't see it.. and i'm buggered if i'm going to join sky and pay $80 a month or whatever it is to watch it..
i'll have to hope if that happens that a PLP equivalent service is available overseas that i can VPN to..
This is bloomin ridiculous and has risen purely out of the Football Association's greed and lack of giving at toss to the supporters. Obviously the TV rights price is set far too high which is good for them but not good for anyone watching the sport. I am going to write to the FA and complain and would suggest everyone else does. Probably wont do anything but it may just at least get them to think about the impact it has, which will only be detrimental to them long term.
The biggest issue the English FA (and others) is that if the typical distributers fall by the wayside, the amount of money generated from the sale of rights to Sky etc. will fall dramatically, which will hit the clubs hard. General admission doesn't actually bring in that much revenue and they rely on the prize winnings etc. to make their profit.
This is a big worry for me. I don't want to have to resort to hunting round for unofficial streams.
I found the quality for PLP to be reasonable. Seems a ridiculous situation that BeIN own the rights for NZ but (as things stand) have no intention to go ahead and use them. I hope previous posters are correct and that Sky and BeIN come to an agreement before the season starts, but think we may be in for a nervous wait.
Also, I hope PLP don't pull the plug until that last game is played on Wednesday morning.
Does anyone know if Sky NZ deals with MUTV, Chelsea TV etc. etc. will still be in place for the 'delayed coverage' games?

The club channels may still be as I tried to look at the Man Utd TV but am not able to subscribe from NZ, suggesting someone else has the rights for NZ.

PLP didnt charge enough, IMHO. Top flight sport seems to be priced at around $10/week in other markets. Generally NZ'ers are a bunch of cheapskates who dont know what the price of providing a quality service should be. If PLP had priced itself right to start with (USD199/season at least) then it might've had an economic case to have paid more to renew the rights (albiet in a blind auction) or left a market where someone like BeIn could offer the product in its place.
380 games in a 38 week season - for just $5.26/week? Ridiculously cheap.
Instead NZ'ers will get the club packages on Sky (like Sky offered last year) and diddly squat. And in Australia they'll get the club packages on Foxtel - unless they want to become an Optus contract subscriber and stump up the cash. Want it on your Aussie TV - pay up for FetchTV.

The FA dont set the price. Those that want it put in bids in a blind auction. Rights are awarded to the highest bidder. So if someone wants to pay a ridiculous amount (say $150m over 3 years to serve just 25m people) thats their problem. Cant blame the FA unless you think they should be selling their valuable content on the basis of "who are the nicest people".
