gjdavies75:

NZ Herald reporting that Sky are close to striking a deal with BeIN for the EPL rights.

Hopefully this means I can breath a sigh of relief with regards to my football addiction.

Purely speculation on my part, but I wonder if the merger with Vodafone could potentially see a 'premier league pass' type streaming service at some point in the next year or so?

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=11654002

I think the NBR are saying that the deal is done.  Some sort of popup channel.  Which will infuriate the FanPass audience.

Yeah, I'm sure that I read this this morning.  It was the popup channels that made it memorable - and I dont think it was with respect to COPA America popup.  And yet now cant find it.  The only reference I can find was that the asking price was too rich for Sky at the moment.

I must be wrong.  Apologies for any misunderstanding.

Just note, it was this very month back in 2013 that the EPL rights were announced. so must be very very close.

And wondering if Prime will show a delayed game every week, seeing as its in HD and all as well.

Can only find the Herald story making reference to this at the moment.

However, Sky have announced a deal for the golf, so it looks like they are tying down the sports broadcast rights at the moment. Keeping fingers crossed here......

It was fine if you supported a team in the top 6 or so but for those towards the lower ranks it wasnt so good.

ie I usually only saw Norwich play when they were playing the higher sides. For me, the great thing about PLP was I could watch 80%+ of Norwich's games.

Interview with Richard Last from Sky Sport with Tony Veitch confirming the rights on Sky. Pop up EPL 24hr channel $11.96 a month, which includes a second channel Bein Sports 2 which will have La Liga, Ligue 1. Still English Championship, Champions League, Europa League, League Cup on Sky without having to subscribe.

Extra 3 pop up channels on Sunday & Monday morning NZ time so that they can play 4 live games if necessary.

Also mentioned Bein Connect (online service) which we can subscribe to without having Sky, maybe closer to $18 a month he thought.

Interesting - so a replica of BeIn's offering in Australia before Foxtel added the BeIn channels to its sport package.  Add-on channel or via the website.  Will be interesting to see if the online option includes the other content that BeIn has already wholesaled to Sky.

Sounds like from the last question of the interview, that if you subscribe the $12 a month you also get access to bein connect to watch any game (when there are more than 4 at a time)

Sounds like the perfect deal to suit everyone if you can get the online package without Sky.
