Sounds like the perfect deal to suit everyone if you can get the online package without Sky.

If true, it's a clever approach by Sky/Bein in that they get access to Sky customers and also non-subscribers who view their programming entirely online. A win-win!

For the casual fan who may watch 1 game a week or so then it is a loss like it was with PLP. They are a lot of people in NZ who like a lot of sports but are not dedicated fans so paying $12 extra a month is just more cost like before.

I'm hoping, from what I've interpreted, that Sky subs get the games on the popup channels at no extra cost, but then you can pay the extra $12 and get beIN connect as well.

I don't think so, I believe you have to pay the $12 to get any access to the premier league on sky.

There was mention of purchasing the EPL channel separately, is it like Fan Pass where we can pay the $12 per month as an individual subscription, without being a Sky customer?

BeIn Connect is apparently another way of watching the EPL, however the countries supported doesn't include New Zealand. Is it just a matter of time before New Zealand gets included so if we wanted to, that could be another way of watching the EPL?

Sorry for all the questions but just a bit confused at the moment.

Unsure whether the $12 will be on top of sky sports cost or whether you will be able to purchase the epl with just the basic package.

But from what I understand this $12 package will get you a 24hr channel plus bein sports 2, with French, Spanish and Italian football. Plus access to 3 pop-up channels giving you access to 4 live games at once. Also will give you access to bein connect which has all games live so if there are more than 5 games at once you can still watch.

The sky guy Richard last mentioned that bein connect will be available direct from bein for around $18 a month.

The champions league and championship etc which was broadcast this season will still be available on the normal sports package, but there may be more coverage on the bein sports 2 channel.

This is what I took away from the radio interview, I guess we should wait for the official press release now.

$18 a month is totally fine for online access, not having to pony up for the failed sky eco system with dishes, decoders and being forced to watch on TV was key for me.

Think plp when they first came out it was $150 for the season. then it was $150 ,for season 2 ,for customers that signed up in season1, otherwise $200.

If the platform has the same access(live and on demand) as plp with the improvements mentioned on here also, then that will be good.

from memory (speculation/numbers):

plp paid 1mil per season for 3 seasons = 3mil

think they needed 10k subs to break even so thats 1.5mil(10k*150$) per season.

bein paid 3mil per season for 3 seasons

so if bein can make 1.8mil(10k*150$) for the online platform and I suppose what ever else the can make from the satelite Tv platfrom...

I have a feeling that PLP paid about 3x more (in USD terms) than sky did but I'm not sure on that. As to why plp didnt buy it? Not sure but I'd speculate that not enough subscribers to warrant bidding higher than it did, and possibly thought that the higher price paid for 2013-2016 (vs 2010-2013) may have kept others (probably just expecting Sky to bid) out of the market. I dont think anyone guessed on BeIn's ambition to be the new ESPN.

BeIN paid nearly 4 x what PLP did for the previous round. PLP again outbid SKY in the latest round but lost out to BeIN.
