lchiu7:
FYI Roku doesn't do Vudu, only some US TV's and the PS3 and XBOX 360.

...

An an aside I think the only device that does all the main players like

Hulu+
Amazon IV
Vudu
Netflix

is the PS3.

The WDTV Live will do Vudu, NetFlix, Hulu Plus.... but it still doesn't do Amazon Video :(

I use unblock-us

Netflix on my Sony TV works very sweet. Sure, not a lot of brand new content, but so much other stuff I don't care.

Google TV does AIV. But it's done with the Chrome browser and gets caught for me anyway, by TCL's transparent proxy. The only way I can watch AIV is on the Roku and the PS3 which isn't a hardship.

I had AIV working on a HTC Sensation with a leaked APK from the Kindle Fire but that stopped working once the phone got an ICS upgrade.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

Variable quality from what I recall but quite a bit of choice. I can't check it here from work but will give it another run tonight

From the facebook page is sounds as though it may be temporary....

"FYX: There is a chance it will be back. A lot of pressure came on us to put it on hold temporarily until more clarity is sought. To be clear, all legal advice both sought and given freely has said there is nothing wrong with Global Mode. That being the case, we hope this change is temporary."

jbard: That is a great list you have wrote up.

I will just point out unlike other services 4od has pretty much their whole back catalogue as well, some really fantastic British TV on their.

The main thing which is missing from all these services is Live Sport. Or just sport in general. Seems like their is a gap in the market here, only problem is sports licencing is so expensive I don't know if it is feasible.

Thanks and for Sports, here is one that you may find useful

That only works in NZ if you have a Sky subscription with Sports and access it from iSky.  Otherwise, it requires a cable TV subscription from a US carrier with ESPN.  Same as Fox shows on Hulu are slated to start doing.

NBC is doing some live streams of the upcoming olympics: http://www.nbcolympics.com/liveextra/index.html

So is the BBC too via their iPlayer. It will also allow for rewind and pausing.

Edit: Actually I don't think NBC will work unless you have a local provider login. BBC will still work thought I believe.

All good until I tried to register a NZ credit card and then got "Order Declined" with 2 different cards.  I guess I could try my Air NZ OneSmart card.  Anyone got some ideas for credit cards that work?

I also tried my OneSmart card which didn't work either.

The really bizarre thing is that each card I tried has a NZ$1.xx amount pending for authorisation, and in the case of my Kiwibank card there are 2 of these transactions -- one for each attempt I made.  The amounts are small and should disappear by 23rd July which is the expiry date shown, but it begs the question:

-  Why were my cards pre-authorised with a transaction in each case, and then my order declined?

One thing I didn't think to try is my NZ address, but UK was shown as the default, so I used a relative's address in the UK.  Everything looked good until the last minute when the order was declined.  The site makes it quite clear that this is only for UK or Channel Islands customers, so I cannot see a NZ address working, hence didn't bother trying it.  If anybody has other ideas, please let me know.

It looks like Hulu or Netflix would be a better idea for recently-released movies.
