afe66: I use witopia too. ( never crashed on me ) interface nice, click on icon select target city and after 10 seconds, off you go. Works on W7 Ubuntu 12.04 Apple laptop.

Netflix fine not issues but iPlayer bit intermittent which I have put down to the distance so use the iPlayer desktop program to queue up the programmes and download overnight. Then just stream from my hard drive after iPlayer checks its still in UK..

Again slightly OT but I only got into iPlayer recently when a US friend mentioned he was using a proxy server to get it.

Using Unblock (and TunnelBear to get the UK IP) I managed to grab iPlayer from the Play Store.

Turns out on the Nexus 7 (possibly other tablets) you can download shows to watch later which is nice. I prefer to watch on my tablet than on a PC browser.

No such option that I can see on the phone client though.

freitasm: Note that depending on ISP it may not work or work with strange results (for example it now works on Vodafone cable for streaming but browsing the Netflix website is a pain, with missing images, etc, because the HTTP proxy gets on the way).

I see VF now have a 500GB plan option so I might come back from TNZ VDSL2+ services. Would you recommend it for streaming (Netflix, Amazon etc.) on devices. I don't care so much about browser access since I never watch on a browser and if I need the IP I can use Hola or Tunnelbear.

I guess the only thing that would break would be Playlater which does use the browser to download shows to watch later but I was never impressed with the quality of the shows and for Netflix/Hulu it never got Dolby audio since the browser doesn't support it.

Snap + unblockus here. Love it, easy to set up (have dns set in router, enables all devices) and it's only $5 a month. Here is a list of all websites that work with it.

Of course a lot of those websites need subscriptions but it works out a hell of a lot cheaper than Sky TV. You can get Sky TV in the UK and it's cheaper than locally. -_-

I have had good results with the streaming part, with both Witopia and Unblock-US on Vodafone cable.

Thanks everyone. I signed up to an UnblockUS trial and it's working well.

Streaming to the BBC was at 12Mbps (on Snap, ADSL2+), I haven't tested Netflix yet.

It automatically switches between the two services, which is great.
