Should all this be resolved once Netflix comes out in NZ? In terms of watching US netflix on NZ chromecast?

Read it again. He's referring to watching US netflix. And I don't think it will change at all apart from allowing nz netflix access from NZ ips

Read it again. He's referring to watching US netflix. And I don't think it will change at all apart from allowing nz netflix access from NZ ips

That's the hope to be sure but unlikely to be the reality given content licensing constraints.

Did you get this working? After you set up your router, have you factory reset your chromecast? (hold down the black button for about 30 seconds).

Anyone get this going? I'm on Orcon, have Netflix, Hulu Plus, BBC iPlayer all running fine on my PC/iPhone/iPad but casting with Chromecast only works with Netflix.

I have tried creating static routes so the CC doesn't use its own DNS, 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4/208.67.222.222/209.244.0.3 all routing in a loop and ping tests failing to all those sites so they are set up correctly. Still BBC iPlayer doesn't cast and Hulu Plus gives the 'Anonymous proxy' error.

Any suggestions?

have you set the DNS of your router to the Orcon DNS?

I got it work by setting my apple airport wifi to "public IP Address" instead of bridge mode. I have a spark router and that won't let me change the dns settings.

Yeah, set router to orcon DNS 121.98.0.1... Stumped... Having to cast a tab from my laptop... Ok work around but rather cast from my iPhone hulu app

So it looks like the global mode with Orcon & Chromecast just don't play well together. Subscribed to Unotelly, updated my DNS settings to theirs and Hulu/Netflix/BBC iplayer all run through the Chromecast now no problems.

Hi Frudrew.
Glad to hear you got it working.
If your Spark modem/router is a Thomson/Technicolor you'll be able to use Telnet to change its settings.
My Mum has a Technicolor TG582N and most of the advanced controls are not available through the web browser interface, but Telnet provides access to the advanced functions, like DNS, QoS, Dynamic DNS, NAT etc.

Hmm just trying mine. Not had the roku plugged in for a year. I've got gargoyle and have tried setting a route from 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 to the routers ip and and invalid ip in the subnet. But each time I start netflix it says it's not in my region.

Can I Use dnsmasq? If so what would I set?

You should use a iptables rule in gargoyle to route all port 53 traffic to your nominated dns server.

You should use a iptables rule in gargoyle to route all port 53 traffic to your nominated dns server.

Not played with those.

Managed to do it by setting lan traffic for 8888 to router address. Seemed to work.

Add this to your advanced firewall settings in Gargoyle (or in /etc/firewall.user):

iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p udp --dport 53 -j REDIRECT
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp --dport 53 -j REDIRECT

This works far better than simply blocking the DNS servers and means Netflix (or any other apps that use Google DNS) don't have to wait for a timeout, also means the latest Android app works 100%.

If you've got a WXC MP-264 you only need to tick one box which does the exact same as above (how I got unblocking services working for my parents):
