Feel free to explain why/how.

Different story if you're a national ISP but as a regional with our primary network infrastructure housed in the same building that we handover our UFB traffic, a sudden 20Gbps spike is not going to create mayhem.

my guess would be that if that Netflix content isn't hosted onshore, you are going to be paying a fair old bit of international bandwidth for those customers.

I can't comment on our operation but assuming your ISP has engaged with the Netflix Open Connect program, you can expect a great no-buffer experience (also assuming your ISP isn't congesting it's downstream / regional backhauls. Whoops. We've had word of several ISPs already doing this with noticeable, detrimental effect).

Is anybody here streaming 4K content from Netflix NZ? On my relatively slow VDSL connection (25mbs down) it takes about 30 seconds to a minute to spin up to 1080p. Perfectly happy with that. Just wondering how long it might take to get all way up to ultra HD on this sort of connection.

I don't have a UHD TV, but just to make sure - are you aware that the browser and PC based clients (and many others) won't stream more than 1080p? (In fact the only ways to get 1080p on a PC are to use the windows 8.1 app, or windows 8 + ie11. (Other browsers are limited to 720p)

I believe some (most?) UHD TV smart apps will support 4K for the content that's actually encoded in 4K, and presuming you're also paying for (or trialling) the top tier of Netflix account (the 4 simultaneous channels account). The other account types don't support 4K at all.

Thanks Talkiet, I didn't know that. I'm using Netflix through my PS4 which I assume would be fine for 4K streaming.

Honestly, I should stop thinking about this right now. I need a new fridge more than I need a UHD TV.

Thanks Talkiet, I didn't know that. I'm using Netflix through my PS4 which I assume would be fine for 4K streaming.
