I'm a bit more skeptical about it though. But as we'll be going to San Francisco, I plan to offer the other side of the equation with a meal at a slightly more upmarket seafood restaurant on Fishermans Wharf :-)

It depends on where your geounblocker makes you appear to be from. If I used my VPN to sanfran I got some incredibly specific geo targetted ads that even had a map showing my nearest locations. Moved it to an LA exit, and got a similar ad with different locations. Much better than NZ online ad's that seem to give auckland only companies to the whole country.

Those ads aren't all bad. They're helping to inform us on some of the dining choices for our US visit next month :-)

I really like the look of red lobster.

But so many ads for credit cards that they swipe and cars. Thats all america is really, cars bought on credit.

What an Odd thing to say? Have you spent any time in the US?

Lived there for just over 6 months and thought it was a very strange place with very strange attitudes. Everything is driven commercially and by credit, so I don't see his comment as all that odd. My one good thing about my time in the US is that it taught me how much better off we still are in NZ (and with smaller credit card balances and better cars)

I think you may be confusing things... Firsherman's Wharf is not one restaurant but an area with multiple restaurants, street side food, etc. Maybe confusing with Firsherman's Tablet in Wellington?

Unotelly works fine, even gives you three different options for streaming. Which works well at the moment due to Vodafones slowdown between 7ish to 11ish at night :-) Big thanks to Unotelly :-)

It's not the best restaurant in the world, but far from the worst chain restaurant to eat at...In terms of value for money in the US though, my vote's for Red Robin :-) (Especially the Onion Ring Stack - ~1500 calories for an appetiser!)

you can configure hulu to show specific types of ads, at least. I get mostly car ads, and *no* insurance ads :-)

Great minds and all that. I had also been seeing the ads for Red Lobster and thinking I might try them out. But having arrived, the nearest RL near my friend's house was 30 miles away and though we had cars we couldn't be bothered to make the drive when there were great restaurants close (San Francisco East Bay).

On the car front I lived here for 6 years. The first time I bought a new car but the second time I just leased one which was better since it meant I did not have to deal with selling it when I left.

People here tend to lease cars over 5 years because they get to drive new cars for about $200/month and don't have to worry about making large payments. And with many manufacturers offering great financing deals, it's hard to ignore.

Here are some I found

For example $179/month for a Camry Hybrid with $2899 down for 24 to 36 months. That's quite attractive for many people for getting into a new car.

In NZ we tend to either have the money to pay cash for a new car or more often, get a used or Japanese import, either cash or some car payment. Given the choice I would not kind paying $200/month for a new car.

Getting OT but Hulu+ does offer many more episodes of a series, often the entire season and the shows are more current than Netflix. But then that's another $7.99 /month to pay.

It would appear everything gives suicidal tendencies, which I realise is *** covering but still makes me laugh.

Yeah, those crack us up. 60 second ad with 15 seconds detailing the problem the drug addresses, and 45 seconds explaining all the side effects you get as an added bonus. I even recall one for depression which (as you observe) lists suicidal thoughts as a side effect.

We do enjoy some of the humourous ones too, with the GEICO ones often amusing. Like this one
