Hulu gets more use because it has next-day streaming of new shows that I'm not patient enough to wait for on NZ television (been watching Brooklyn Nine Nine and The Voice every week). Netflix makes for great fill-in watching and movies for the young fella. I'm happy that, for less than $30 per month, I get the choice of more content that I ever did with Sky. I'll be keeping my subscriptions going.

Hi, how did you go about getting signed up to Hulu. I just get kicked out.

You should be using a DNS unblocker like Unotelly on the device you sign up on. I provided a US address and phone number (I used my YouShop US details) and my Air NZ OneSmart travel debit MasterCard as the payment method. You can also subscribe with a US iTunes account, if you have one.

Thanks for the info. I have DNS4me, but the key must be the OneSmart Card.

I have Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Instant and watch stuff on all 3 on a weekly basis, I watch a mix of movies, documentary's and TV on Netflix and probably use it 3-4 times a week.

I guess it all comes down to whether the content you like is there. In saying that I was a bit stuck for movies a few weeks back and just did a google for "best movies on Netflix 2015" and have started working through this list http://agoodmovietowatch.com/netflix/23-best-netflix/

So far all have been pretty good.

We've dropped Netflix this month after using the service for around 3-4 months. There is a lot of content on the service, but so much of it is old or mediocre, so although it's only $12.99 a month I'd rather use that to subscribe to another service.

This month we've picked up Neon and (shock horror) have found some really good new shows & movies that we haven't seen before and that weren't available on Netflix (in any region)/Lightbox etc.

yeah, but whats the quality like compared to Netflix. General opinion is its not that flash.

Yeah, I'm amazed that some people can't find enough content on Netflix to keep themselves entertained! That would make sense if they only had access to the NZ site, but internationally there's such a wide variety of TV programmes and movies...

We had a three month trial of Lightbox that expired this week, but hardly used it because of the lack of Airplay support; certainly wouldn't look at it again until this is sorted (or an Apple TV app is released). A pity as I'd have liked to have finished Mr Robot, and another member here mentioned a great Norwegian series they had.

We also have ad-free Hulu for eight months (via that dodgy gift card purchase off eBay - never again, now I know!), but have hardly used this - must check it out more.

The biggest hole in having only Netflix and Hulu is a lack of programming from HBO and Showtime; I could pay more for access to both of these, and perhaps one day will do so...

In practice, many of the free sites have great content - BBC iPlayer always has something interesting to watch, especially for those 'older' viewers who would have once been more traditional TV1 viewers - I cancelled my parents' Netflix sub as they get their fill of programmes from the BBC and FTA TV.

The other service I use a lot is UK Channel 4. I was a Living Channel devotee when I had Sky, and it was on almost every evening, so that was what I missed when I cancelled my sub - mainly shows like Location, Location, Location and Grand Designs. Those are both 4 shows so now I watch that a lot via the PS3 app. Interestingly that occasionally blocks me for newer content, but that might have something to do with the U.K. region I used to sign up.

Despite my initial thoughts on it before subscribing, having spent some time looking at the catalogue in detail it's actually pretty good. The range is much smaller, but the quality of the content is better. A lot of that probably has to do with the Showtime/HBO shows. The movies are on the whole a lot more recent too.

On the downside, the SD streaming irks me.

We'll pick Netflix back up with HOC returns in March, so hopefully there will be some further new content on there to watch by then.
