I still hold hope that a common platform/app can be developed that allows all these streaming software to integrate so I can see all programs in one place and don't have to remember who has what... Until then, streaming will be fragmented more and more as the services offered expand.

Kodi actually manages this very well, it allows you to favorite different series/documentaries etc.. It does not matter which app you watching it in.

I'm actually running Kodi on a raspberry Pi, with OSMC. Pretty easy and cheap setup.

But Kodi can be run on multiple platforms. I like the Pi, because its easily tucked away behind the TV, and very configurable.

This happens in industries sometimes, until they realize they can't make money this way and there is consolidation.

I say it coming, to be fair, but ultimately it's what people thought they wanted, to cherry pick what content they paid for.

boxee use to do this very very very well. they showed all the tv shows/movies in one place, and when you went into the details of the movie/tv show it would show "ways to watch", listing netflix, vudu, hulu, local etc. then samsung bought them....

There needs to be some easy aggregator or people will only subscribe to 1 or 2 big players and stuff the rest. if they make it too difficult, too many people will keep using sickbeard/sonar/couchpotato etc which takes the work out of it for you.

at least cbs on demand runs on heaps of platforms.

youtube could be the answer in all honesty. subscriptions via that, using that app (which runs everywhere) to show all the movies/tv shows across all these services etc. but then it comes down to cbs etc all using that one service.... which they probably wouldnt do....but it would take the load off of them....

Yes, but depending what you install on it, like a normal PC, it can play illegal stuff too.
