The TVNZ on demand site does support Chromecast, as I said in my last post the Chromecast button appears on the videos when I use my smartphone. Why should this not also appear when I use my laptop browser?

What is the workaround that you refer to?

The reason I prefer using my laptop is because it's a lot easier at the age of 81 than peering at the screen of my phone and fumbling with my fingers. It'll happen to you one day DV...lol

The workaround is the 'cast tab' that you've been using. Would be nice if the TVNZ supported chromecast on their website so you (and others) could chromecast from there.

37 more years until I'm 81... You are doing well. Suppose you could install the SDK for Android and install the Android apps on your laptop and then cast from the apps that way. I haven't tried doing it that way, but I'm fairly confident it would work.

I've just cast TVNZ on demand using my laptop.

Choose your video. Go Fullscreen, right click twice (the first click gives player info) menu has Cast...Bingo!!!

Cast tab is a crappy option as its a copy of the screen nothing more nothing less.

The TVNZ on demand site does support Chromecast, as I said in my last post the Chromecast button appears on the videos when I use my smartphone. Why should this not also appear when I use my laptop browser?

I dont know any websites that have chromecast functionality built in. It is a whole series of commands etc that is bundled as part of an app and so I can only assume you are looking at the on demand app. This is not to be mistaken with using the browser on your phone to go to the tvnz website and watch, which for me offers me to watch it in the app, but does not offer chromecast functionality. Equally my netflix account on my PC does not offer chrome casting from it to my available chromecasts.

I am not really sure what your issue is that you are trying to overcome, as chromecast has always been a method of making a non-smart tv smart and controlling it with your personal device, a phone in most peoples cases. It does exactly this as it should!

Strange, I get the chromecast icon with both Netflix and Youtube (plus other sites) while using a google Chrome browser from my Windows PC.

are you using chrome of the browser? doesnt show in firefox for me but does in chrome

I'm using the Google Chrome browser, I don't think Chromecast is available in other browsers.

I'm now checking out why I can't control the Cast on my Panasonic Viera tv. HDMI-CEC (called Vieralink by Panasonic) is supposed to be able to do that but perhaps that's only in later versions. If my tv is off Chromecast will switch it on and go to the correct HDMI input.

only play/pause is controllable over cec - the stupid thing is that the end screen cards for other videos still show on chromecast but cant actually select them.

I can't get play/pause, am I missing something about the Viera settings/controls on my Panasonic tv?

Moahunter: If you're casting a tab from Chrome, you CANNOT control it via your TV remote OR your phone. You can ONLY control it by clicking the video player controls on the PC which is performing the cast.

My solution...after some lateral thinking (and a lightbulb moment).....and even pondering the purchase of a cheap tablet.

Resurrected a semi-redundant Acer netbook running Windows7 Starter, installed GoogleChrome and an adblocker. Use that from the comfort of my living room couch... its quite adequate for my Chromecast needs and I can happily control Pause/Playback.

BTW I found its a lot easier to access TVNZ OnDemand from my Chrome browser than using the app on my phone and as I said earlier Cast from a Rt Click on the screen.
