I've watched a few via Sky Go and can confirm that's about the same quality via that method as well.

Really? I watch Sky Go on my iPad, cricket, not F1. It used to get the odd streaming error, the feed started of VERY grainy, then after 3 seconds was good. Good as in a borderline ok 720p, but on a small screen it was more than adequate. What I have noticed lately is that the feed is very good, it has definitely improved. From past threads the iPad app seems the best result, I can't comment on what its like via the webpage interface

Dogs bollocks. Seems really low quality. Especially pushed to a 46" screen (it's not the computer as plex, other sites via browser are much nice looking).

Something in the press release from sky yesterday reveals their thinking on 2nd screens.

"People might be willing to pay $15 or $20 to watch Sky Sports on their mobile phone," he said.

But to provide such a service, Sky would have to make sure "it can't be thrown to a big 64-inch screen", he said. "

This probably goes for the browser experience as well.

I have noticed a definite improvement in the video quality on Sky Go. I'm not making that up, I have noticed a change. I also note that the few seconds of grainy before it clicks to normal doesn't happen anymore, or if it does its very quick. That's my iPad experience, cannot comment on PC or browser

Skygo has improved quite a bit over the last 12-18 months...

Two years ago: Crashed every time a large event happened

12 months ago: Crashed occasionally, Video quality about 480P

Now: Rarely crashes, can go HOURS without a skip. Video quality substantially worse than 720P. It's maybe 540P on a good day.

Of course, watching non-HD material in 25(ish)FPS when F1 is broadcast in 4K in many developed regions is laughable.

540p on a 9.7 inch screen is pretty good at my end. Unsure when Liberty Media's streaming service will get here, but you would expect that will be 4k. But tablet platform and tv apps will be last to appear, which is a bit hopeless

This. It's the frame rate/motion lag that gets me, like jerky movements compared to the broadcast TV equivalent.

Side note re the mention of the Sony Android TV App, but this has been an issue.

I (naively) thought that I'd be set with a native Android TV, but nearly all the relevant apps are not available in the Play Store, mostly because the TV doesn't present as having a touchscreen interface.

I have a wireless keyboard/trackpad that works fine, but I've had to sideload the likes of Sky Go to get it on the device, and it's understandably flaky at times.

Huge disappointment really, and I genuinely can't see any benefits to it being Android based at all now. (Especially given the base model I have doesn't have a voice remote control option).

So I'm back to requiring a native custom app to be developed for my specific brand of TV, despite it supposedly running on an open OS.
Better as always to have a standalone media unit handling that, and using the TV as a monitor only, or adopting chromecast support in an iPad app for example also.

But agree, in terms of getting Sky streamed (I don't desire Sky) yes, Fanpass was the best. We had that and did use it on a number of occasions, until Sky priced it out of contention and then said NZrs clearly didn't want it?!
Go figure.

The problem with Fanpass is that it created churn. Cancel Sky Sports save $100, get Fanpass for the odd daily or weekly. It was meant to get back revenue from those that left but they got it back to front., it helped people leave
