TENKAN: Well unfortunately Netflix (USA and NZ) is just full of b and c grade movies that you would have seen many times before, you really need to take out a couple of streaming sites to get what you want plus a unblocker, this would still work out cheaper the Google play ( $7 per movie is just crazy)

I'm pretty movie obsessive and Netflix has heaps of high quality movies. For example, I just typed 'Godfather' in search and the following movies came up as available:

Scarface
Goodfellas
Casino
The Untouchables
American Gangster
Inglorious Bastards
The Wolf of Wall Street
Scent of a Woman
The Departed

No b or c grade movies in the above (IMHO) and these were listed from one search on a single title - and I didn't even bother to scroll down the screen to see other titles available.

So you haven't seen any of those movies before?
How many times do you need to watch them,
Casino,The Wolf of Wall Street are rubbish, b grade at most.
But seriously everyone will have their own opinion what is a good movie or not.

Netflix give you a free trial anyway, so just give it a shot and see what you like on there in the month long free portion and cancel it if you dont see the value?

What did video shops used to charge for a movie? In SD at best...

Plus you used to have to drive there to get them. And return them.

Plus you used to have to drive there to get them. And return them.

Same with electronics. Plenty of complaints about retailers not discounting heavily enough, yet electronic appliances have never been cheaper than present (iPhones excluded).

Worth noting NZ Netflix has the 8th largest Movies database and 6th for TV shows (better than 92% of other territories) based on the link below - so it is actually pretty good - and certainly better than it was on release.

I'm always surprised when people complain about the Netflix NZ library. I am constantly surprised how deep the movie library is once I start searching options. And there is also great depth in quality TV series as well.

I agree. I don't watch much, but plenty there. But the OP wants to avoid paying for the latest and greatest. So it's the money issue again. If you want the latest and greatest, pay for it. Otherwise wait.

No.. for some even good isn't good enough. My peeve these days is the move from big content (read: Disney) to take content off large aggregators (read: Netflix) in order to control the streaming themselves. Thereby forcing consumers (read: us!) to subscribe to multiple services in order to get to the content we want. Kiwis without Sky or Neon who like Game of Thrones will know this pain all too well. Netflix gradually losing the Marvel catalogue (which Disney own) is another major sign of things to come.

BUT, everyone whinged about Skys monopoly (even though that never existed), and want competition. WE have lots of competition now, so we pay less for services (although Ive not yet seen NF reduce prices, only increase). So, based on ALL the years posts, we now have competition everywhere so it must be sorted?

If you want first run movies then Netflix is not for you. You need either Google Play Movies, iTunes (based on what Mauricio said), Amazon Prime (you pay for the first run movies) or Vudu (which I like).

First run movies tend to be about US$3.99 each or about NZ$7 so as you say, it only takes 2 movies to exceed the cost of a Netflix sub. But it really depends on how long you want to wait.

Satellite rocks. yes its only 1080i, but its a good quality picture.

Can you explain the complete disregard for the customer? I have hardly every had to call them, that's been fine when I have, its reliable, added value has improved. No room to drop prices, so that's fine. It is what it is and it works, and the content suits many

Now, this OP wants the latest and greatest movies, at Netflix prices, that's the general theme for the anti Sky people.

We used video shops nearly every weekend and would happily pay the $7 to watch it as soon as it was released, I use the same logic with Apple Movies and Google Play Movies, $7-$8 for HD-4K quality, Yes Please!

The conclusion is quite clear. Google Play and Apple movies are good value. If you wish to save money get Netflix, but accept that you wont be watching new movies. I suggest to get NF and try it out. Or accept that $7 for the latest movie is a good buy
