You won't be limited to mobile. But there is a target of 3.5-6Mbit connection therefore not all ADSL may not cut it in the feed QC checks.

Thanks, that YT Video is excellent. Explains a lot. I sort of feel better now.

500K Peak streams is being catered for. It's *probably enough*. 2.8Tb/s bandwidth.

Having said that, this indicates that Mobile devices are getting 540p only. If that's true, that's terrible news I think, unless someone can clarify for me? I haven't watched video in 540p by choice for many years, except food TV, which I wouldn't accept for Sport.

What isn't covered, is what is happening for all the bars, restaurants, and other group viewing situations. How is that going to be licensed/catered for.

I feel a partnership with Sky is all but essential.

Re group venues, if they have 6 TV's showing the content, will it be streamed one time, or is that 6 streams?! I do wonder about how they will keep all that in Sync?

Fair enough, not all ADSL subscribers, but at an uneducated guess I'd think the average ADSL user can stream video.

I'm not really that fussed with sports (I'll watch it if it's on somewhere that I happen to be) so have no 'skin in the game' so to speak. If I did though, and I was hanging out for F1, I'd be quite disturbed about the apparent lack of platform beta testing with only 5 weeks until the season begins. I say apparent as there may be a bunch of Spark staff testing it at home who've signed NDA's and Spark may be simply keeping quiet about it. It does nothing for consumer confidence but the silence is not surprising - communications companies never seem to be particularly good at communicating.

EDIT: just watched the link posted by Oblivian (very good, thanks), brief beta testing not far away. I did find the comment about a number of bigger ISPs having been invited to participate with "only one beta test user" interesting. Testing function only, not load.

I viewed it as content aware, it will work out what size device you are on, and use a different stream accordingly so not only data usage is kept within the device limits, but viewability isn't blown out beyond what the eye can perceive.

The 2.0 audio on the graphic however, doesn't show if that supports 6ch encoded/passtrhough

"The Spark Sports platform will support rewinding to the start of a live event if you join midway. You won't have to wait for the VOD asset to be created. The live channels also have a rewind window (some hours big) when you join them."

"Sorry, that's a detail I don't know. When I get Beta access myself in a few days (hopefully) I also won't be able to tell you due to the NDA... "

Things are happening. IMHO if you think about the words NDA and competitors and rights agreements you cannot assume its lack of communication. Spark have stated it will be early 2019, in time for F1 and options for any sports that have just started. F1 is 6 weeks away, RWC is many months, best not to speculate and then discuss the speculation, then get annoyed. Maybe chat about what features are wanted? The rewind/start a live stream to the start was a biggie that I was VERY glad to read about

I read between the lines as, it is an attempt to batt off any potential launch issues with RSPs/ISPs DNS/cache setting issues. And make sure that all providers/connections can at the least get the core platform working across the promised devices when customers sign up.

Functionality tests after the core component confirmed live.

In short if you have a Chromecast and know how to drive it using your smartphone/tablet with a UFB connection then you'll be fine.

Or PC + Chrome browser + caster and a new(ish) 'smart' TV that supports it native.. so many combinations

Mates new 75" lets me send all sorts to it native.

Many making assumptions is speculation. The video says there is testing, the Spark person says there is testing, but in reality everyone would surely know there would be testing.

EPL is the main thing for me so following this with interest. Really hoping for a PlayStation app like with Netflix/Lightbox/Neon/TVNZ etc since I don't have another device to get these on the TV. I guess Chromecast isn't a huge amount of money if I end up having to buy one but would prefer not to have to pay out for another device when my existing equipment allows for all my streaming needs currently.

I've never been a Spark customer but my partner has her phone plan with them so hopefully that means we can take advantage of a discount.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was some deal when you sign up for X period where you can get a free chromecast or discounted one or something similar, that would help with the people who don't already have an applicable device
