Not comparable at all. Sky TV sold their MySkyKD as an HD receiver then downgraded the picture quality to try to squeeze yet more money out of its customers.

The last straw for me was buying a premium channel SoHo for $10 a month only to find that the picture looked like it was being streamed over a 3G cellphone. Never again for me.

That's certainly an interesting interpretation of what happened.

Cheers for that. I have Sky. It runs on our old but top of the line Panny plasma. (Doesn't even have Freeview) I don't see crap video. I see less than 1080i, but I prefer a nice program, the res comes second. I use Spark Sport for F1, its 1080p, I can see the difference but its just a step. I'd suggest to focus on content you like, not the res. I guess you can search for top res content that's of no interest? Facetious? Yes, but thats what I see here

Live content is different I guess that’s governed by whatever service you’re using, at the moment I use Kayo Sports with the majority of content streamed at 1080p 50fps.

Say there is a doco on tonight. It might be Sky, or TVNZ or Mediaworks, or Netflix, etc. It really interests you.Its not 240p it might be 720p. What do you do?

I have watched Natgeo docs that look ok, I see pixellation when panning on the ocean. What do i do? Watch it or wait?

What finished Sky for me was learning they'd been taking my $10 for HD for several years but I wasn't subscribing to any channels where it mattered. I guess I should have read the fine print more carefully

I also disagree that $10 to raise resolution to a decent level is comparable to $3.50 for the many benefits that premium Netflix gives

NF like many others charge extra for higher res. Premium NF which I have adds 4k which I dont use, adds devices which I do use. Res has nothing to do with my use case. I'd actually be quite happy with a proper UI/UX and for it to remember what ep I watched. That would be quite handy.

I wait.. take GoT for instance I have not watched a single episode this season because I want to wait until it is out on 4K UHD Blu Ray so I can saviour every moment in all its glory on my OLED tv, I’m not in no hurry to watch it because it’s out now.

As in - "take my money already"

They signed me up to a package which included a $10 HD fee, but didn't point out that this made no difference to the resolution of any channels I could view. I would argue that an ethical company that cares about its customers wouldn't do this. If that makes me an anti-sky Brigadier, I'm cool with that.

For netflix, the extra sub is so small, that I wouldn't resent paying it if I wanted any of the extra features. As it is I only have 1080 TVs and don't watch on more than 2 devices, so not required

If you’re talking about NF, this has been a thing for a while. I can watch something on one device, pick up another and carry on where I left off at the precise moment I stopped. It’s all there in “Continue watching”

About damn time. 5.1 audio has been terribly quiet for ages. I always have to switch to standard audio just to hear anything without having to crank up my soundbar. Hopefully this fixes that.

I would doubt this would have an effect on volume for you. Surround audio formats often still have quite high dynamic range vs the loudness war compression that has gone on with music releases so perceived loudness will generally be lower. Does your soundbar have any options to change the relative balance of channels? If so, the centre channel often needs to be boosted to have dialogue appear balanced with effects at moderate listening levels. On a soundbar, using standard stereo audio is probably a better listening experience anyway, it's asking a lot to achieve much in the way of positional effects from a single source location.

Netflix audio has already been so far ahead of the other streaming options that I havent even had a problem with it. I would like to see a bit more video bandwidth tho, often seeing a few artifacts that shouldnt be there.

You must have jedi like powers to avoid any spoilers on GOT, you only have to open up pretty much any new / entertainment webpage and its there in black and white. That would spoil the viewing experience for me more than 1080 v 4k
