I get the basic plan, non-HD. Even on my 55" screen we can't tell much or sometimes any difference, though most of what we watch is kids stuff, and my wife watches a little. I think it was about $10, maybe going up a bit, doesn't matter it's cheap as chips for the content.
It is still cheap entertainment. The issue really is how high it will go over time as the competition in the market consolidates. It potentially may make sky look like a good deal, if people have to pay multiple providers to get the content they want.
I'd happily pay up to $40 per month, maybe more. I tend to ignore the Netflix original films, most are average - but there are a few gems. The documentaries (currently watching The Family - excellent doco series, highly recommended) and a lot of their TV series are great. Plus there is an excellent range of highly-rated older movies.
I'm gobsmacked. $120 was standard for Sky a few years back and, apart from the sport, their offerings were average at best. And $20 for Netflix is too much?

The thing is how much will the price be once they want to start making good profits from it. It appears with these types of sevvices which disrupt the traditional business model, these companies price it low initially to grow the customer base. Then once it is at a good level, prices start to rise to make the business model sustainable.
Don't need to be entertained. I got plenty things to do with friends or by ourselves and when we like to watch a movie, we go 100 m to the cinema (or use the plex server with own media).
- NET: FTTH & VDSL, OPNsense, 10G backbone, GWN APs
- SRV: 12 RU HA server cluster, 0.1 PB storage on premise
- IoT: thread, zigbee, tasmota, BidCoS, LoRa, WX suite, IR
- 3D: two 3D printers, 3D scanner, CNC router, laser cutter
I know this is very old fashioned but as well as subscribing to Netflix I rent DVD's by post from Alice In VideoLand in Christchurch. For $40 a month I get 15 discs at a time and the catalogue is huge - many movies and TV series you never see streaming. It's not difficult to watch 30+ movies in a month in the winter.
Most (but not all) Netflix original material is predictable and dull.

Haha, when I refer to unwinding I'm referring to everything outside of doing things with other people! I guess that makes me a bad person :D

I don't stop you guessing whatever you want. I just don't spend time to get entertained by low or mediocre media streams. In my case I got the ISP's own streaming service (I think netflix as well) which is included in the fiber package and couldn't be unselected - which I would have done for sure. And the gems (approx. 120) are on my Plex server.

I would still have Netflix if I also had a paid VPN or DNS service to get full use of their catalogue in the US/UK. I think Prime Video is great value considering their movie range and original series, especially during your first 6 months at half price.
