It's not an article.

I don't understand what you are saying: why is it not a written piece?

It's an opinion piece. So intended to be provocative, and not an objective or rounded piece of journalism.

And clearly written by someone who doesn't have to manage the locked-at-home sanity of children!

Don't listen to those that aren't experienced or qualified to make such judgements. I think it's unlikely that opinion piece author is either of those things.

David Court has been way off on many of his articles, this is clearly the same, he really grates me now, would not bother wasting my time.

Honestly, it depends what you mean by way off really... I would suggest he successfully generated lots of article and advertising views from his piece. I mean, surely we're not dumb enough to judge Stuff opinion pieces by their accuracy or responsible fact checking?!

Any validity in this article?

How hard would it be to upgrade our local backbone network?

No. There is no problem with capacity or backhaul. The opinion piece isn't based anywhere on fact.

Edit, He also appears as if he is based in London so has even less of a clue about NZ Broadband: https://muckrack.com/david-court
