Just watched the first 2 parts of Luminaries and I strongly recommend it.

I cannot recommend this on windows chrome at least on my platform it was almost unwatchable. I stopped, didn't want to ruin it. What platform did you watch on?

Primary playback platform is Kodi on an Amazon Fire Stick. Playback is better than Satellite SD and pretty damn close to broadcast HD.

I also watch using Firefox on Fedora 32 on my desktop and no quality issues.

Generally known online as OpenMedia, now working for Red Hat APAC as a Technology Evangelist and Portfolio Architect. Still playing with MythTV and digital media on the side.

Watched via TVNZ On Demand app on Xiaomi MiBox. Quality was fine there.

gzt: It's welcome news. Last time I watched TVNZ On Demand is hard to remember.

I'm planning to watch the new local NZ series The Luminaries/Elizabeth Catton book adaption starting soon.

The alt sports channel looks good for a surf.

There's loads of good stuff on TVNZ OD. Killing Eve for example. It's offering is much better than you would expect from a small broadcaster.

Do they still require you to register and provide email address? I tried On Demand some time back and when they insisted on an email address I stopped. I suppose I could have given a throw away email but why wouldn they require to know who I am to watch a public TV programme. Also adverts would annpy me. I hope that when the new TV & Radio organisation start hopefully they will not be commercial.

Yes you still need to register. Most other FTA broadcasters around the world are the same these days including BBC.

Yes. I like logging in better. You can personalise it more. Even have different profiles for different people in the house under the same account.

It also tells you what you’ve watched so can go to an unwatched one, otherwise would have to remember which episode up to yourself.

TVNZ OnDemand video content is a mixture of SD and HD (720P, 1080P) depending on the content rights in place. All video encoding uses machine learning to achieve optimum quality for each episode when creating the video renditions for playback. 2.0 Stereo Audio is currently used for the TVNZ OnDemand library.

That rules me out of using on-demand. Unable to watch without 640kb 5.1 audio or atmos/dtsx. I guess no 10mb 1080p either. They need to step up the quality! I get this quality from Amazon prime video!!

Quite the opposite here. I waited to watch the final season of game of trones in 4k. Instead of the average broadcast TV version. It was worth the wait. Its not enjoyable watching anything with poor picture and especially 2 channels. Always quality over quantity.

Would you ever watch a action movie without surround sound? For me it ain't gonna happen ever! Dolby atmos and dtsX is here to stay!

You certainly wouldn't like it at my place. I only have one HD capable screen and that's on my development PC. All the TV's I watch with are old SD ones. I've never paid more than $150 for a TV, all secondhand.

I do have a reasonable (but old) Yamaha amp with front and sub speakers which I used to have set up with a 7.1 configuration but I don't miss it in that setup.

Sd tvs are ancient! Seriously upgrade! You will prefer the clearer and sharper picture. After seeing hd and 4k you never want sd ever again! Can't believe anyone who would still use the blurry sd tv in 2020.

Overall disappointed with the range on offer from Amazon Prime for current TV Shows

TVNZ On Demand has great recent content from the UK.

Works all good on the PC via the TVNZ ondemand medium.

As yet it hasnt filtered through to the TVNZ On demand Smart TV App.

Looks like the content was already there and all they have done is channelized it ??
