If you're wliling to make a change on your end there is the option to change static IPs on their form www.spark.co.nz/staticip . Or do you require a custom PTR record and perhaps that is the range they put you on for those requests?

There was also that trick where you set your PPP username as NoStatic (any password) and you are temporarily assigned a dynamic IP, which could be worth a try to ascertain whether there really is a geolocation blacklist or "static IP" policy.

Yup setting "NoStatic" and it is case sensitive so you need a capital N and S and no domain ie don't add @ spark.co.nz or anything silly like that just "NoStatic" for the username and anything for password as that was how I wrote the code for that part of auth :)

It won't cause you to go into the Anonymous account so you won't get disconnected every 4 hours.

I am on static IP from 2degrees and not noticing any missing contents.

I can also change to US contents through dns proxy.

What shows were you expecting to see that you aren't seeing now on static ip?

That little gem of knowledge is worth the thread alone! Upvoted.

I have a family mail server, plus some other services that need the static but it's mostly done via DNS or can be easily updated so might try the NoStatic test tonight and look to switch statics. The ptr domain is adsl.xtra.co.nz so I never got that changed.

Is there anything else that can be done from a Spark point of view to modify the IP so Netflix is OK with it?

We pretty much only see netflix originals. I was watching Star Trek Voyager and my daughter was watching Modern Families and they just weren't there one day.

If you have a clean connection - as the ISP intended, no alternative DNS, no VPN's, etc - and you're not able to see the full Netflix catalogue, the problem starts with Netflix. You're not getting the service you're paying for. It's up to them to resolve it for you as you are their customer.

If you have a clean connection - as the ISP intended, no alternative DNS, no VPN's, etc - and you're not able to see the full Netflix catalogue, the problem starts with Netflix. You're not getting the service you're paying for. It's up to them to resolve it for you as you are their customer.

They're not proving to be that competent to deal with so far. Besides, we cancelled the account last week so they probably don't give a toss.

Well having cancelled is another important detail, in that case yeah, cut your losses. I've not been impressed with their customer service to-date either - should've seen them go nuts when I accessed my NZ Netflix login ID from work (proxied through Australia) to log a fault with my NZ Netflix. Confused the agent substantially, to the point where I couldn't get the agent to understand that none of my problems were to do with me being in the wrong country, that I was actually in NZ and my problem was with viewing in NZ. :o

So this is just another nail in the coffin I guess.

Tested the NoStatic last night and all the missing programs are back.. Great little trick to know for testing.

Seems like Netflix geo system is broken and their support just clutch at straws.

I have a static IP with MyRepublic, how would I know if i'm affected by this?

This is not a widespread issue (IF it is an issue at all). Netflix doesn't care if your IP is dynamic, static or CGNAT.

What MAY be happening is that there are IP ranges that for some reason Netflix doesn't think are in NZ... It happens from time to time but it's rare. Dynamic/Static have nothing to do with it. If you can use Netflix and see the programs most others can see then it's all good.

This has nothing to do with static IP.
