I am with Telecom, and it seems to work 100% - I use Netflix regularly, and Hulu also works from my PC.

What kind of 'problems' can this cause? Do you mean like bypassing local (ISP) caches, CDN's etc?  Even it it does, a VPN will do exactly the same won't it?

Do they have a small application to keep changing your DNS? A VPN is a temporary thing - you turn it on and off. Changing DNS is a bit more than that.

No, no application (I have used a few VPN providers before and they all needed an 'app' so you can select the region you want to appear in).

They give you a new DNS server address - I have put this into my Untangle server, and since all other machines on the network look to that for DNS resolution, all machines use that DNS.  I can change this by pointing a machine at my router, bypassing the DNS (bypassing the DNS bypass).

Never had any issues after signing up - just needed to 'verify' from one of the machines after logging into their site, and now we can all watch Netflix.

Plus I find the streaming speeds are far better than VPN - because there is no tunnel I stream at full line speeds and can easily watch Netflix in 720p. (HD)

I had a play with unblock-US in the weekend and Telstraclear's transparent proxy trips it up

OK Guys, successfully running hulu+ now on my PS3 via the Astril VPN on my DD-WRT router.

Just like Netflix the picture quality is very good.

So far I am just amazed at the amount of content that is available on Hulu. So many new series shows that never make it to NZ, even the new Soho channel on sky its no comparison. All for only US$7.99 per month, and 100times the content of Sky.

Compared to the TVNZ PS3 application there is just no comparison. (I find the TVNZ quality not very good at all when watching via the PS3.). And this is international bandwith so can’t really work out why TVNZ is such bad quality.

Hm... might have to get my feet wet here too.

How long does it take for new shows that have aired in the US to show up on Hulu?

I'm not sure how long it takes - sometimes it seems just a couple of hours after the episode screens on TV.

However the last Fringe episode is not up yet, but I watched it last night on Amazon Video (US$ 1.99 each episode) and it is also available on itunes (US$ 2.99 the same episode).

I just set up Netflix on Xbox using Unblock US. And it worked without a hitch. Even worked with a Kiwibank mastercard. Hulu + is more fussy with regards payment. Will probably get a card mentioned on this forum. Have now cancelled my Sky movie sub

Unblock US won't work on Internet providers that use transparent proxies, like TelstraClear.

Sorry for the delay. Telecom. If that didnt work I would pick up a router with VPN tunnel and load my Astrill VPN. So if Unblock takes a hit that's my next port of call.

I figured out why it didnt work... My flatmate had the router hijacking the DNS. Now works awesomely!

An update... Got the US$25 card into my Hulu account. The problem is that when Hulu charges and tax is added, the amount is $8.75, leaving a $16.25 balance, which is not enough for another two months - so the card is not three months of Hulu, but rather two months... and a balance.

Contacted the web site with the cards and got a reply in about five minutes.

Basically it comes down to sale tax, so the recommendation is to use an Oregon or Delaware address. For people who got caught on this (before the warning), he offered an extra one month Hulu gift code for the balance - the card can be used to buy the extra month on the site.
