I thought the name "Disney" was a clue here...

I flicked through the entire catalog last night... it didn't take long.

The vast majority of the series are just kids shows, and the only movies worth watching are the Disney/Pixar films and the Marvel films. And I've seen most of these already.

They are going to need to churn out A LOT of original content, and soon, to make this worth keeping.

Yup, I looked at what's available and for me it simply isn't compelling.

Well, the way many adults have espoused Disney+ as a more-than-acceptable replacement to Netflix and other SVOD services, it seems some have a different view!

Not that I see it that way - I reckon a month or two over the summer holidays, where the kids can make the most of it and I can watch the few things that interest me, will be all the access I need for quite some time.

My POV is that at NZ$ 99/yr it will be cheaper than paying US$ 4 (Amazon Video) per Marvel movies for my daughter to watch and rewatch.

After the first year - probably not.

Saves me buying the Star Wars box sets again... and provides the marvel movies I have not yet bought and let’s me watch a few movies I didn’t see on release (Pete’s dragon, dumbo, alladin etc) so $100 for the year... probably worth it.

I paid $100 for 12 months.

Will re-watch Star Wars in UHD, any series they come out with that are action ones.

Haven’t seen a lot of marvel movies. At end of year depends what new content they have as guess by then would’ve watched most old stuff interested in.

In the US at least, service is really designed to be part of their offering, with Hulu and ESPN+ providing more adult focussed content.

Received a new JBL soundbar that is also a Google Android TV device. Setup was swift and decided to install Disney+ on it - my Amazon Fire TV is not 4K so this will be a good test.

Alas, the "Login with your mobile device in the same network" also doesn't work here...

Zepanda66: Watching A New Hope in 4k. My gosh it looks clean! You can see every tiny detail. Wow.

The opening desert scene. You can see the marks/blemish covering 3CPO's torso, real eye popping detail.

I watched the beginning as well, amazing picture.
But I’m worried it’s the version that George Lucas added scenes to, does anyone know if that’s the case?

Han shot first!

A bit annoyed that the Android TV app is only outputting 2.0. But resume function is there and video quality is nice. Would be good to have info overlap to check the stream like you can in Netflix, though I'm more interested in a 5.1 update.

Well, I'm a tad underwhelmed with it, if you're not a Marvel fan boy or have small children then there's not a lot there.
Having said that, The Black Hole is there which I have always wanted to see, I had the old record and read along book
Is Flight of the Navigator on there? I'm sure I saw it mentioned in a release but I can'tell find it..
Also anyone else finding the search function there a bit hit and miss?

Also is there a Reddit type thingie like "/whatsthebook" for movies. As I keep vaguely remembering old Wonderful World of Disney movies from when I was a kid

According to Justwatch, that now includes Disney+ its only on Google Play movies, rent or buy, at the moment

Sure, but I guess I just assumed Disney owned more than this.

I also assumed (incorrectly) that they might have syndicated content like Netflix and Amazon do. Or get exclusive rights to content that they don't own.

Even if you are a Marvel fanboy, most of the Marvel TV shows aren't on there. Nor are any of the live action Spider-Man movies, not even the ones made by Marvel.

I'm sure some of this will change once current deals expire, but launching before they even have rights to a lot of their own content is disappointing.

EDIT: I suspect the only reason The Mandalorian is being drip fed is so that people can't binge the whole season during their trial and realize their isn't much else to watch then cancel. This way they get a guaranteed 2 months subscription from Star Wars fans.
