Gisborne, Orcon Giga Fibre.

Watched the Sa v JP glitch free over the weekend. The game had a real fluidity to it like USA/CA sports feed running @ 50/60 fps. Not sure if it was but just had that look to it.

What Spark should have done is offer an STB option which they come and install for less tech savvy folk.

Why? The theme here re Sky is catch up with the times. Now you want an STB?

However, Apple TV is a great STB, I believe Spark sell that. There is no doubt an equivalent Android STB. How much hand holding do YOU need? Just ask here.

I'm basing that on Stuff/Herald articles bashing Spark pre-emptively. The comments are full of people who don't even seem to understand what's going on. Totally agree that ATV is a good option, I've had a lot of miles out of mine.

Its a cost but the 32GB version isn't too bad. Android box that is supported is cheaper I assume. For those that have to bridge this streaming gap, ATV4 can open up a new world.

When we went to digital, some had to stump up for a Freeview STB, like Sonnet. Now, its the same, but instead of a Sinnet type box to get the same, an ATV has a lot more, free or pay.

Ive just noticed when looking at RWC section on Spark Sport that there are a lot of quite cool clips. 1014Rugby Form Guide, Sit Down with Scotty Stevenson (various players), Unforgettbles (Top 5 this top 5 that etc)

Just an FYI if anyone wasn't aware. Just ONE WEEK!

Scotty Stevenson has moments of absolute gold in his commentary but he isn't a patch on the 2 incumbent NZ commentators in my opinion. There were times during the JPN and SA game I was cringing. I think the issue is, when he commentates on the NZ Derbies he had artistic license, but as part of the official RWC Commentary team he will somewhat limited.

I am really hyped for the RWC, my wife knows I am MIA for 6 weeks LOL I am a lucky man that she is understanding on my various obsessions.

I dont like him at all. To me, expert commentary is a big part of any sport. But it is what it is there are others there too. Good on your wife mines like that too.

I actually went looking for an alternative commentary, the first time I've actually gone looking through menus looking for it.

I think he probably knows a fair bit about rugby, but he lacks the infectious excitement build up tone and gravitas that the great commentators do have. Think Peter Montgomery, Tony Johnson, Grant Nisbett, and I can't recall who was commentating in the 2015 CWC Semi Final against SA. They cemented those moments in my mind as much as the actual sport event themselves did.  I'll never forget Grant Nisbett and Justin Marshall screaming their lungs out as BB scored the final try in the RWC final 2015.

Smithie? I wonder if he loves rugby more than he does his own sport, cricket. Otherwise, well put. Atmosphere etc

Totally agree, i suppose the sky sports guys are ingrained into everyone too huh. For some reason it felt like I switched to a league game, perhaps due to his delivery.

Gotta say it, Beaver's commentary and especailly how he was pronouncing the Japanese players names was very cringeworthy.  My wife, who is not a huge rugby fan, pipped up and was wondering who it was.

Hi All

Just purchased new 2019 LG UM7660 4k 100hz (3 weeks ago) running Fibre 100/20 (Wireless to Router)

Watch the JP vs SA live stream and post live

Found the image quality good, but noticed jittering during fast movement (rugby ball passing, and fast running)

Smooth Settings on TV were cranked to the max, and even tried reducing quality to see if this helped with movement

Not sure if being game was broadcasted in 30fps or 60fps but definitely not as smooth as sky yet,

Come on Spark, you have less than 1 week left to get this right!!!

Image Quality 10/10

Smoothness/Motion 5/10

@baxnz I think you need to try with your motion settings turned OFF. You may have more than one setting to change. I am not an LG owner so I can't help with this, but in my Sony there are two places. You may need to adjust them a bit and compare.

It's unlikely at this point Spark will be changing anything. Having watched a fair bit of Rugby across the various platforms, so far my preference is Sky, Kayo and Spark in that order for Picture and Motion combined.

Thanks for advice

yes did try this also with no difference

I think its just the way it has been broadcast

Do you know if the JP vs SA game was broadcast in 30fps or 60fps?

Well, based on how it looked compared to how utterly awful it looked a week earlier, I want to say 60FPS.

it could well be the re-encodes that have taken place.

eg if the source was 1080 50fps then re-encoded to 60 fps or worse, multiple re-encodes, or a worse source eg 1080-25i to 60fps then it's going to look bad.

expect variable quality in RWC due to this!

The SA v JPN (not the highlights) is definitely available in 60fps (or 50fps*). Not sure if you've seen the other Spark Sport thread, but I have been testing 30/60fps on my setup at home.

With my TV - Sony x900e (android TV) the stream plays at 30fps, but if I chromecast it to the TV (native android TV chromecast built in) it plays at 60FPS.

* on Kodi with Matt H's Spark Sport add-on, the stream info shows 50FPS
