afe66: I found the Klingon full face prosthetic too wooden and their movements when walking too restricted. Not consistent with a warrior culture.

Will happily continue watching nz Netflix.

A.

Personally, I found having to read subtitles for Kingon pretty annoying, I generally watch TV pretty casually, and will often be doing something on another screen, and will look up if things need my attention.  Whilst it's not as "authentic" if they are going to do this for every alien race, another deal breaker.

I am ok if it's 1-2 episodes a season, or as an entry to the series thing, but ongoing it would be more than frustrating.

What annoyed most was the lens flare. Really folks, we don't need this anymore.

Yeah the lens flares were annoying, and all the Klingon subtitles. And the look of the Klingons, the makeup/mask looked too heavy and plasticy.

I'm totally on board.  Loved the pilot and episode 2.  Aesthetic is beautiful.  I don't care about the lens flare.  TBH it just adds to the aesthetic for me.

The short at the end of episode 2 previewing the rest of the season looked great.  Seems to be a good mix of story arc + standalone episodes.  Looking forward to seeing Rainn Wilson as Harry Mudd.

Managed to finally watch it last night.

OH YEA go Star Trek. This is a very worthy prelude to all the other ST's. Interesting how they have even made the technology appear older than the original 60's show. (side beam transporters, larger hand weapons)

Hope they keep the excellent & solid story/plot scripts going. Just by grabbing civilisations from the previous ST's show there is a ton of meat to pick from.

Can't wait cool

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

It will be interesting to see how it develops. I did not like the new look Klingons. They have made them into Space Uruk-Hai. And the amount of facial prosthetics they make the actors wear seems to make it hard for them to deliver their lines.

Saw both eps last nite.  The Pilot  could have been better but the second one was right up there.  Should be a good series it it continues this way..

it was ok, i liked the captain and number 1.  klingon new makeup looked errr.... and the subtitles were bloody annoying.

i had to google when it was set, i thought it was after kirk but in the new timely.  turns out before kirk but after archer, so before the new timeline even started.

always loved star trek, DS9 > TNG > Voyager > Enterprise (and i did like enterprise, just season 3 was a drag to watch).  too young to appreciate TOS (enjoyed TOS movies though).

It would have been nice to leave the Lens flare to the Kelvin Timeline and leave it out of the prime as a visual cue to what universe you were in, but each to their own...

The facial prosthetic team will be busy in this series. Seems overkill to me as they lost all facial expressions. Just lips and tongues moving.

Gone are the days of slapping some bumpy brown rubber on Michael Dorn's head and calling him a klingon.

Overall pretty cool though, looking forward to the rest of the season.

Theres also a follow up show called 'after trek' which we don't 'see' ourselves. Covers off each ep with cast and crew etc

It offered it up at the end, I didn't watch it, though a box popped up on end of episode to click on if interested.

Edit: Also searching "after Trek"  brings it up as well

Nice visually but dialog drove me nuts. Turned off half way thru first episode and maybe another day will give a 2nd try. Total let down. I can live with the horrid Klingon masks, was fine with the sub titles but on a military vessel I dont need audience style comments to say "oh the shuttle can only do x". You know what it can do and better you or you would not be on board. The audience is not 5.

5 minutes in I had some doubts. Halfway through the second episode I was loving it. Lens flare was ok soundtrack overly percussive like most movies. Overall excellent sound. Amazing overall actually I'm amazed..

Had to persevere the first 20 mins and unnecessarily long Klingon dialog scenes, but it does get better then on.
Looking forward to the next episode.

I also somewhat enjoyed Orville which interestingly enough has Brannon Braga as the exec. producer (ST:TNG co-producer), and Seth MacFarlane that at some point was one of the StarTrek TNG writer staff.
They even shoot at the same location as one of the ST:TNG episode, see if anyone recognises it :-)
Definitely a must watch if you like TNG, or if for nothing else parody aspect of it.
