@itxtme:

Personally for me Bigpipe 100/20 with constant high def->low def->high def switches.

I consider Bigpipe = Spark in this context.

I claimed back early bird refund from Spark after all the earlier quality control issues about 3 weeks ago. Tonight VPN and Kayo worked perfectly. Sharp and smooth, though no Sumo for commentary and quips....

@kharris:

That’s not the case... I’m on Vodafone and had resolution drops... many friends also had issues on other ISP’s.

Context missing.

Device?
WiFi or ethernet?
xDSL or fibre?
ISP DNS or Google/Cloudflare/OpenDNS/other?

I watched on the Spark Sport ATV4 App on a 7Mbit Bigpipe ADSL line in a rural area and was really impressed with the quality. There were a few short reductions in pixel quality (with no other devices using the connection) but it never cut out and the last 20mins were flawless - no complaints here

I watched the earlier Aussie game at my folks place who were streaming via an ATV3 and the stream would freeze quite often, stopping the stream and starting it again would get it working fine again though if I wasn’t there they would t have known to do that. After I switched the stream to a Chromecast it ran for the rest of the game without issue.

I really feel for the Spark sport support Helpdesk, would have been so painful trying to deal with everyone’s different issues,

Must say I (personally) think it's pretty ridiculous seeing all the people demanding a full refund - for one game. I wonder if the same people were on the phone to Sky screaming about rain fade when that happened and demanding compensation as well? Having said that, if Spark wanted to give a partial refund, that might be different. I dunno.

I cannot fathom how you could possibly compare this to a meteorological event.

I would call both "an interruption of service".

Seems like a few issues.

The Samsung app looks garbage, as most of those pixelated pictures seem to be on them. Was happening well before the All Blacks meltdown.

As for the stream, it looks like a scaling issue for me. Got better in the second half when people jumped offf.

2Deg, fibre, ATV 4k.

Watched on an android tablet with the Spark Sport app on wifi over Spark fibre. Absolutely no issues with quality or drops. Was perfect the whole game.

Multiple resolution drops but only one freeze with a buffering (30 seconds).

Spark fibre with a AppleTV4K.

When it was working properly the TV reported the picture as 2160p, which I assume is the ATV’s doing.

Debrief tomorrow will be brutal. At Spark rather than the ABs.

What I will be doing is have the other TV/recorder sitting on Duke whenever the ABs play for a quick switchover and rewind.

Watched it down at the local fire station via Spark 4G connection and Mi Box S (FENZ network wasn't playing ball). Was perfect for the first 20 minutes than had several instances of buffering (upwards of a minute at one point) with the quality dropping down every few minutes. We switched to Duke for the 2nd half.

I know its not ideal but I'm still some what impressed by SS. This was a massive test of their setup and there were kinks which they will no doubt toss everything at resolving. To have the guts to admit they have issues and switch to the backup FTA I can respect. A lot of companies would have played it off as 'only a few users' and called it a success.

Had some quality drops in the first half. Was going to change over to kayo for the second half, but put it on duke once we heard about that.

We have Vodafone fibre 100, I can and have streamed multiple services for years, on adsl, vdsl and fibre, no real problems - nba, nhl, nfl, Netflix, kayo, YouTube, and many more. There’s nothing wrong with my set up, it’s clear there is some sort of scaling issue, as I have not experienced the same frequency of quality drops and buffering on spark sport before the all blacks game tonight. Just the other issues with the frame rate which have been sorted. I’ve been streaming the premier league and formula 1 fine on spark sport before tonight.

Surely when it goes to Duke, TVNZ should be able to stream it on Duke Live, so those of us without aerial connections can still see it ....

Was at a pizza bar in central Christchurch. Think we had 8 10-30 second buffering stops in the 1st half and about 6 in the second. I walked across the road to another bar with spark sport through sky and it was almost 2 mins ahead.

Really poor start Spark

Played two rugby games in evening.
All Blacks game mostly suffered from changes in picture quality. Sound stayed in sync.
Chromecast Ultra via ethernet.
Inspire Net VDSL 25/2
Default DNS

Irritating but not unwatchable.
