does netflix broadcast movies in their original aspect ratio or do wider than normal widescreen 2.40:1 movies get chopped to fit a 1.78:1 tv screen ?

cheers

Ive been using US one for ages and keeps them in original aspect ratio. So have black bars top and bottom on screen.

yah !

that's a tick in the 'pro' column...

wink

signed up for a look and many films (eg. watchmen) are tv versions - cut from 2.40 to 1.78 tv aspect ratio - and not hd

boo hoo

q- how do you reset the personal preferences ?

If I pay for a quickflix sub could I use a VPN to access libraries from other countries?

no, you need to subscribe to Netflix, not Quickflix.

I see Vikings in the catalogue.  I thought that was Lightbox exclusive. (maybe it's just the most recent season that is Lightbox exclusive. Netflix only has S1 and 2, but Lightbox has 1-3)

Seems I was wrong about not seeing 'my list' when changing regions.
Looks like it shows you everything form your list that is available in that country

Incidentally this catalog is extremely weak.

'My List' in the USA catalog has 190 items saved to watch later

Opening up on the NZ library, it has only 34.
So less than 20% of the stuff I saved to watch later on the USA netflix is available on the NZ service.

Go to borwse, and select TV. Very dissapointing selection. Almost all kids stuff.

I think I'll be sticking with Lightbox for TV, they just have a lot better TV content, and Netflix for the odd occasion when we feel like a movie.

Just started to watch star trek into the Darkness.

The sound was absolutely awesom, full dd5.1, and it sounded like it was packing more of a punch then the sound on sky movies.

Good stuff.

Just found out when i went to sign up that no matter what device i use i can't access Netflix NZ at all & keep getting the US version. I have my internet with Orcon & assume that due to there global mode im being redirected to the US version everytime.

To access & sign up with Netflix NZ i had to use mobile data on my mobile. But once i had signed up & switched back to a wifi connection (Orcon), the Netflix app on my mobile now gives me the US version everytime. Iv'e also downloaded the Netflix app on my Xbox 360 & signed into my new Netflix account, only to find once again i was on the US version. Yet in my Netflix account settings it shows my NZ debit card for payment & the payment is in NZ dollors. Also i keep getting messages pop up about travelling overseas & certain features not being available in some countries while travelling.

I believe to change the Netflix region with Orcon you need to go to the Orcon website, log in to your Orcon account and then change the Netflix region.

Just rang Netflix on their 0800 number (0800 480 222) and the helpful American helped me switch me account from the US version I had signed up to - to the NZ version now available in less than 5 mins.

Basically involves cancelling US subscription - then they wipe your account to free up your email to sign up as a new user in NZ. Means you get another month free trial. But unfortunately looks like you lose your watch history in the process.

I logged in on my firetv and it was a bit weird. Put my email address in and a new password (might have been the old password too, I use a pretty dumb password for things i have to enter on onscreen keyboards) and it gave me the trial, but still had a really old visa card which it wanted the CSC for. Didnt have it, and there was no immediatly obvious way to enter a new card number in so called them. Answreed quickly and offered to help but said I should be able to change it on the fire tv. I went previous and then next and it then allowed me to change the card number. Guy was happy to wait while I tried entering it and it worked fine.

So my old netflix account I had canceled ages back is now live again, kept my stuff and is now on NZ.

I will cancel my other netflix account which is in USD in a day or so.

So why is everyone changing from US billing?

Did you guys not have the locked in price when they changed it about a year ago?

Yes us long time users are grandfathered into the old price structure

I don't want to change that as long as I can

Not changing to new plans. Rather stay on the old US plan.

You have to switch regions with your provider if you have Global Mode. Same with VPN or DNS settings.

Australia's Netflix Library has been leaked - http://www.reddit.com/r/australia/comments/2zvvfr/australias_netflix_library_leaked/

I wonder what NZ will bring?
