Talkiet:Kiwifruta:Talkiet:1101: Ive gotta ask, is it just a case of want 1080 because you want it , not because you'll see a real difference over 720
And 1080 vs 720 is just the native res of of the vid stream. Thats not the be all & end all of quality.
A quality 720 vid will be better than a compressed to the max crappy 1080
The theres the issue of just when & where our eyes can actually see the differenece: screen size & veiwing distance (and how perfect each individuals eyesight actually is)

Panasonic 50" VT20 Plasma and AE7000 1080P projector. Yes there's a real difference.
I've had LASIK and my eyesight is significantly better than 20/20

Why not bite the bullet and buy a chromecast? With the power saving over running a PC and noise reduction also... makes life easier for you. Although I have heard that a dual band Chromecast is coming.
My Media PC is an I3 NUC. It's quiet enough (essentially silent from a metre away) and pretty power efficient. I don't care about power efficiency though. I really don't want to have to have multiple boxes... It looks like by upgrading to windows 8.1 on the NUC I can get 1080 if I use the app, (5.1 sound only available in the app, not the ie11/win8 browser combo)... I guess that will do until I have a 4k display device.

Just tried using the Netflix app on Windows 8.1, much better image for the same movie I was watching last night through a browser. Both times watching on my panasonic TV.
best of luck.
