I initially tried using my YouShop address, and then tried an address of a US based hotel. Same result.

It also prompted an alert to be raised on the transaction by my bank, and I had to ring them to confirm it was all fine.

Interesting. I have an ANZ Visa which is associated with apple pay as well. I didn't actually pay with Apple pay but I wonder if that has something to do with it. Or perhaps it was a loophole that has closed already

Managed to get this to work using my daughters ASB debit card, and I now have USD $50 worth of credit to tie me over for the next couple of months. Which means no wife raging at me when Hulu didn't renew on December 26th. :-)

I used the approach of getting the iTunes voucher directly by email from us store using my kiwibank MC and worked fine. Funny thing next day had email from kiwibank reporting suspicious credit card activity and listed the apple.com transaction - had to inform them that it was me who authorized it.

I tried the US iTunes card from Apple Store using a Westpac Mastercard and authorisation failed. So it does seem that it works for some cards and not others.

An interesting thing to try for those that have cards that do work, would be to try those cards as the card for your actual US iTunes account. i.e. instead of buying gift cards with the credit card and funding your iTunes with those gift cards, just cut the gift cards out of the equation and fund you iTunes directly with the credit card. Maybe if US Apple store accepts that credit card, then US iTunes will too. That would make life a lot easier.

Been using OneSmart with iTunes for several years, pretty much base all my iDevices on my US account. Even have a US address where they receive my mail and forward anything to me. Really disappointed with the latest development.

Tried to pay for US iTunes gift card using the new OneSmart card, failed for me. Not sure if I needed to modify the address field to a NZ address, didn't bother since I didn't want the account billing associated with my NZ address anyway.

Tried my ANZ MasterCard next. Went through but the bank flagged it as suspicious and then blocked my card too. Had to call bank and confirm the transaction to remove the block. They told me that they get a lot of fraud from Apple, so they flag a lot of stuff going through the web store.

Before all this I tried to enter both cards as a payment method into iTunes directly. Neither worked, so its possible to get declined by iTunes and still use the same card to buy gift cards from Apple Web Store.
