Talkiet:

bbunnys: I think for the first event on platform Spark have done a great job. Only had one small hitch.

But quality of steam was top notch and I for one enjoyed it and looking forward to rest of F1 season.

Thanks for that! If the hitch was during a replay of Riccardo's incident, then we are aware of it and are chasing down the root cause now.

Cheers - N

Was that about lap 5?

For me it was between lap 4 and 6 somewhere. Can’t remember exactly.

Exactly how did you expect TVNZ to pay for screening the content? They aren't a charity, they are a commercial organisation, and need to show advertising to make revenue. I'm sure Spark didn't give them any coins to cover the cost of the rights and broadcast.

Tech query on casting. Mines been rock solid, but when it stopped at 4 or 5 (maybe the glitch Neil mentioned) can a broadcast such as SS tonight, affect a cast, confusing it? I only bought the Ultra a couple of weeks ago, so not familiar with it

Edit this was responding to an earlier talkiet post about go between to ss

I will be as this service at last require es considered feedback to improve however what would be valuable, especially us Guinea pig f1 fans is some form of roadmap of app improvement as the service is lacking some key features that are required for live sports.

Unlike you guys in the traditional telco / network space, are spark sports not going to have a presence here, especially during the early months?

Talkiet you've done a great job answering as best as you are able and I think most of us appreciate the effort so thanks from me.

hio77:
Benoire: Possible bug in android app, sometimes the cast notification gets replaced by a generic bitmovin player v7.1 + stable rather than a normal app cast screen.

Pressing this cast notification does not bring up the app as normal, suspect its due to a partial app crash.

This sounds like power saving possibly kicking in on android. Your not on android 9 by chance are you?

Yep android 9 on Nokia 7.1 night mode drops the blue hue from screen but shoudlt drop to power save

App works well and surprisingly (and great) I can also access the service through the native browser on my Samsung 4K Smart TV........trying to watch via my PC though is a disaster. Edge and Internet Explorer does not work and it stutters on Chrome (it is very resource heavy on my PC but still have 50% CPU and RAM available). I can stream all sorts of other video via my laptop without problem so unsure exactly what the problem is - it is definitely not an underpowered PC or bandwidth at my end causing the issue.

I'll wait for a windows app and hope that solves the problem otherwise will have to rely on my phone when away from my TV.

ACompleteMuppet: Hmm just trying to watch the race now, but when casting (iOS) to CC2 I can’t seem to get the cast to start from the start of coverage, so just had the podium presentation on the big screen! Bugger. Then trying to ‘rewind’ rewinds the app, but not the feed. Any ideas?

Exactly the issue I had - see my posts above. Have sent that into the Spark feedback thingy as requested above. Please do the same (just copy & paste your text).

Talkiet:

Edge and IE are specifically not supported. I have also had issues with Chrome. Firefox on my PC (Hex core Xeon E5-1650 - 3.2Ghz - 32GB, Samsung pro SSD and GTX1060) is smooth... I have seen Chrome behave well on machine with much less grunt but it's being looked into.

TL-DR; Try current Firefox.

Cheers - N

So I’m not completely stupid, I do realise we are commenting on Geekzone. But an important element of this is that Spark has opted to more-or-less “broadcast” live sport. This is big-screen stuff, where often more than one person (i.e. a family, or a group of mates) watch together.

That the app works well on grunty PCs is irrelevant. It needs to work on TVs and other big screen formats. And it needs to be user controllable re. start time, speed, pause, backing up and replaying, etc.

It looks great and gets through to end users. But the big-screen aspects (no pun intended) are critical. Casting is hugely important.

Man I hate casting, its just not natural and I have no confidence in it working well.  I much prefer to keep my phone isolated from the TV so that if something crashes or my kids get my phone the TV won't stop... Perhaps I'm a luddite when it comes to modern watching but meh I prefer everything with a remote.  I'm certainly looking forward to a non-brand specific Android TV app i.e. not just Sony in the way that lightbox is locked down.

I presume if the phone screws up you loose the ability to either control the stream OR the casting stops?  We cast Youtube to the shields as I've disabled them to control the young kids access but if they get the phones while casting they can seriously cause some annoyance and stop the stream.  Anyway, I will use the casting until such time that an Android TV app is available OR I can side load the app on to the shield in the meantime.

I've submitted a decent chunk of feedback to the help page but no confirmation email received, anyone else done so and got a confirmation email?  If yes, then perhaps it hasn't gone through and I'll resend it.
