shuttle15: Thanks for all the replies to my question.  The U.S. power supply is 120V whereas NZ is 230V.  Is a transformer required for the Amazon Fire TV to work in NZ?

Presume it hasnt changed since I bought mine, but power supply is 110-230v 50 or 60hz - so its fine for NZ (or anywhere) , BUT the plug is a 2 pronged USA type.
You would need to get an adaptor plug.

I am not sure it's the best box but I recently purchased one of these to replace my Logitech Revue

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7622051&CatId=4679

The price was right and Youshop charged about $22 to ship here.

It does Netflix, Amazon (which the Revue didn't), Vudu but no Hulu+ for some reason.

Pluses - the first time I have been able to watch Amazon IV in HD. On my PS3 or Sony BD player it was never in HD for some reason, even on the same LAN segment.

Also being a Google device I had purchased an app that allows me to watch content on my server without DLNA or Plex. It just plays a share.

The only restriction I have seen is that the app won't play content with DTS audio or any of the HD codecs like DTS HD MA or Dolby TrueHD. But then I would use my Popcorn Hour for that.

Plus I was able to install Google Music on that and access all my cloud based music. And of course being an Android device it comes with the Chrome browser also so you can surf the net on the TV.

Minuses - no Hulu+, BT remote so cannot integrate with my Harmony setup and sometimes the remote can be a bit difficult to use (the cursor keypad and mouse can be finnicky).

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.
