mrtoken: So why is everyone changing from US billing?

Did you guys not have the locked in price when they changed it about a year ago?

In case anyone isn't sure, that price is only fixed for 2 years (starting mid-2014) so will increase next year.

Noodles: Signed up, but it's not loading on my ATV2 yet. The icon is there, but it says it's not available. Maybe it's on AU time

Just as a matter of interest.  I assume if i sign up in NZ  I can still use the US service with as VPN??

Really stoked that its finally available, just so it shakes up the market and drives more innovation in this space. I will keep my grandfather US plan (@ $7.99 USD) because of the catalog but will watch with interest as the NZ service grows over the next 12 months. One day I might switch to NZ but the only benefit would be to save a few dollars.

Yes, or with a DNS redirect.

The catalog is in no way influenced by where you are billed. It depends entirely on where you are accessing the service from (or where your DNS/VPN service makes it look like you are).

I just signed up and was playing around...

It's interesting, but the CDN c033.syd001.ix.nflxvideo.net (which you would think is in Sydney) currently resolves to:

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: ipv4_1.lagg0.c033.syd001.ix.nflxvideo.net
Address: 23.246.29.142
Aliases: c033.syd001.ix.nflxvideo.net

Which is in....Wilmington, USA.

I don't understand the magic of CDNs, but it appears to be nice and fast...

I have to say I am thrilled with the NZ Netflix, the content is better (for me) than the current US one.

I can't even get 720p running via chrome browser (30Mbps fibre) and chrome doesn't 5.1 audio??

Runs/looks great on PS4 though. 1080p with 5.1 audio.

I'm the opposite, looks great on chrome to ipad but looks like SD quality via PS4 to a Panasonic VT50. Tried changing playback settings, ringing the 0800 number etc - looks poor.

Could I sign up for Kiwi Netflix then using that same login & payment to go through Unotelly to watch US or Euro Netflix or even Aussie Netflix if they have different content?

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Yes, you can. You just need to switch the zone in your Unotelly control panel to access different a region's content. A Netflix account gives you global access, your DNS or VPN settings dictate which library Netflix displays at any one time.

Edited for punctuation fail.

Or if you don't already have a smartDNS/VPN service I saw this one posted on ozbargain with a 12 month sub for $12. Seems way cheaper than others like unotelly but is a bit more restricted and doesn't have NZ added as a region yet

Playback quality seems to be pretty good using IE on my 10mbits ADSL connection. I'll have to try the trick mentioned above to get the detailed stats to see what size content I'm getting.

Even on my iPhone on Vodafone's 3G network during peak traffic hours plays very smoothly at high quality. I've played a few TV shows on the bus/train to/from work. Bye bye data but my plan goes to 7.5GB next month so it'll be a good opportunity to test how much data I will use.
