dclegg: So how are people finding HBO Now performance so far?

Not particularly good as per my previous posts but I have had better results recently...

I could not get HD quality on our 45/10 VDSL initially but after a few days of use I have found that if the stream begins in SD on the Apple TV (which is common), I could often get it into HD by backing out and restarting the same stream again. Once in HD it would stay there for most of the episode (I have been watching GOT S4 mostly with better HD results by doing this).

Just pausing the SD stream would not make it jump into HD when resuming. In my case I have to go back to the HBO menu and restart it to get it into HD.

But, yes, peak times do suffer from intermittent changes from HD to SD and buffering with the odd error message appearing during playback.

Well that was fun while it lasted. Just got this email...

Dear HBO NOW User:

It has come to our attention that you may have signed up for and viewed video content on the HBO NOW streaming service from outside of the authorized service area (the United States, including D.C. and certain US territories).

We would like to take this opportunity to remind you that the HBO NOW streaming service is only available to residents of the United States, for use within the United States. Any other access is prohibited by our Terms of Use.

If you feel that you have received this message in error, and that you have both met the eligibility requirements for HBO NOW and have been using the service within the United States, please call us at 1-855-366-2183. If we do not hear from you by April 21, we will proceed with deactivating your HBO NOW account without further notice to you. Please note that it is your responsibility to cancel any automatic billing with your Subscription Provider to avoid incurring charges for any future months.

Yikes. I haven't had that (yet?) but what are they trying to accomplish? Driving people back to piracy again?

How were you accessing Now?

Same email received. Appears they do not want money from us.

Maybe they are reading this thread :)

No email here yet. Also using Unotelly.

So even paying directly to the content creator (internal company divisions notwithstanding) isn't enough. Sheesh!

I'm curious to know how they have established our situations.

If I was a fan of conspiracy theories, the following statement: 'It has come to our attention' would cause me to obsess about the 'Big 4' dobbing us in :)

Just confirmed that HBO Now is still working for us. Apple TV 3, configured with Unotelly DNS. Apple ID with US address, associated with Air New Zealand OneSmart card.

The email gives a deadline of the 21st so I wouldn't expect it to cease yet, email or not.

So I guess netflix's assertion that there is no way to find geododging users is a load of cobblers then. If hbo now can do it, netflix surely can. Which is potentially worrying.

Thanks a lot callplus for bringing this to the worlds attention. We were getting on just fine without you.

Australians have been receiving the email too.

I haven't received the email.... Yet. Think I'll stay away from HBO until we know how they're detecting us.

We're not that special.  This notice has been going around to users globally that are accessing out side USA.
