Thank you. I still disagree with the way this is being handled. If you want to shut the threads down, fine, but I don't like the idea of private threads on a public forum. And for those that suddenly want me to open up my Facebook to everyone, don't be rediculous. Facebook as a different medium altogether. The premise that not all Facebook info is public is well known. Geek zone I thought was a public forum.

Anyway that's my opinion and the last I want to say on the matter.

This is a private Forum with approved public access. The owner can change, deny or grant access at his discretion.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Yeah you are right, and I think that Mauricio does a great job of allowing open and honest communication and only chimes in extreme cases. This effectively makes this a public forum. Something I applaud Mauricio and the other moderators for.

This means I have also removed my tutorials and a bunch of other things. From now on, I would recommend not discussing working services in public space and if you have a service that works for you then keep it to yourself and don't discuss it anywhere public since many of these providers are now going through great costs to bring a service to you.

This also goes for private messages on here from me. If you're not trusted or a long term member then I will not answer any questions related to unblocking. I do have a service that works, and I know many of you guys do too so lets just keep it to ourselves from now on. If your service stops working then raise it with your service provider or read your service providers social media channels for clues.

Most service providers will no-longer state what they're doing around this US based video provider to protect them, and their customers. That is all.

There are private forums set up now to discuss such things behind closed doors and some discussions have been moved there - if you'd like access then send me a private message.

Fair call on this. In retrospect the thread I started about working devices and setups wouldn't have helped. I assume that thread has been deleted too?

I prefer to keep it simple and set things up as thru say on the box. I suspect the threads removal had a little bit to do with ego and the perception of control but that's only my opinion. One I am sure I will get shot down for. It was posted recently that smart DNS services would no longer work. Rubbish. They clearly do in some cases.

Some of my own threads I spent hours creating and researching and I've chosen to remove them too. Like I say it is for everyone's benefit. Providers were evolving faster than I could keep the thread updated anyway and after talking to quite a few providers we've just agreed to keep discussions behind closed doors.

I just want to publicly thank Michael for all the time he put in to find solutions and also share those with people on geekzone. Great initiative.

Michael, your OpenWRT geo-unblocking with custom host file allows me to run OpenDNS family shield in conjunction with geo-unblocking. That has been worth oodles to me. It works very well. I would not have been able to do this without your help.

I too had been concerned that if the ways to circumvent Netflix's geoblocking were made publicly available, then Netflix would know what to address in order to plug the hole. Wise move to make it a private sub-form.

That said, I think our family is now over Netflix. After 3 years of unrestrained usage, its popularity has brought about its end in my household. Time to spend more time playing together as a family and less time vegetating in front of the telly where no family bonding occurs. Apart from watching the All Blacks, I'd rather not have the income reduction box in the house at all.

Now that this thread is semi private I would like to ask if anyone can explain why, on the whole, I have been happy and successful following the tips from Michael (and creating a howto for my modem/router).

Is it simply because I understood what I was doing and could follow instructions or is there something different with my hardware or ISP?

We all now want maximum pleasure from our viewing time so anything which cuts out the adds and allows us to choose what we watch is good for us.

Netflix's 'unrestrained' usage in our home has been the problem. Time to put Gargoyle and some QoS on the router.

Its such a shame its had to come to this but I completely understand. I have been very fortunate that I've remained largely unaffected - but even if my service does get cut I will ensure I still continue to get the content I want and I certainly will not be paying Sky, lightbox or quickflix exorbitant prices to do so. Lets hope that this is a temporary setback and the ethically corrupt business practice of segmenting consumers that results in NZ'ers having to pay many times more for less content than richer countries do ends soon. I will certainly dance on the grave of sky tv which will inevitably fold as they cannot halt the future forever.

It is exorbitant in the context of the amount of content they offer relative to US netflix though - so for me to get the same amount of content I would pretty much need to sign up to each service.

Consumer have just launched survey that will 'helpfully' track which services are working and which aren't.

So Netflix won't even need to scour through pages and pages of discussion forums. Consumer.org will lay it all out in a nice handy table or chart for them.

by this comparison, literally everything you can possibly buy in NZ is extortion if you can find it anywhere else in the world for less money.

Rent in mozambique is waaaaay less than it costs in NZ. Landlords in NZ must be gouging.

Rice in china is waaaay cheaper than it is in NZ. NZ must be gouging.

Cars in the USA cost a lot less than NZ. NZ must be gouging.

I can eat out in Bali and have mee-goreng for only $3. Restaurants/foodcourts in NZ must be gouging if they charge any more than $3 for a large plate of mee-goreng.
