Rikkitic: Would anyone be interested in taking out a big ad in a national newspaper, headline something like "Shame on Sky", followed by an explanation of Global Mode and instructions on how to acquire a proxy to replace Global Mode and a list of some providers like DNS4ME and Unotelly? Since the court case was dropped, there should not be anything illegal about telling others how to do it. It would be a nice way of lodging a protest and putting Sky and the others on notice. Maybe the parties to the case cannot discuss it, but that does not prevent anyone else from doing so. If enough people contribute, the ad should not be too costly. What do the rest of you think?

What about people who have ad blockers running on their national papers? How will you reach them?

seems like a funny idea,  but the only people it will impact would be the ones who are too lazy to do a simple google search for something like 'global mode alternative' or 'Netflix USA NZ'  or even simply read one of the many articles in the herald, stuff, etc etc that already exist and that talk about these alternatives.

And if they are too lazy to do a google search, they are definitely too lazy to be messing around with router or device DNS settings

Gotta agree with NPM on this one.

There is such a thing as PR. What I am suggesting is intended as a gesture designed to annoy and embarrass the media companies so they don't simply get away with it with no accountability. That is why I am thinking of an old-fashioned newspaper ad. Of course for maximum effectiveness it should be accompanied by a social media campaign. This is not difficult to do if enough people sign up. The ball is in your court. We can either join together and let ordinary people know how they are being shafted in the interests of corporate monopolies, or we can sit here in our ivory tower complaining to each other about it.

Yabanize: This statement by Orcon is no longer true. (It's still their cover photo on Facebook)

Which part isn't true?

I'd chuck in a lazy tenner.

The least a full page ad would do is get the news media to take notice. I did not see anything about it on TV - I did hear Leighton Smith talking about it on ZB, but I think he just confused the issue even more.

Yay, first to join the rebellion. I will start looking into costs and possibilities.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

A full page in the Dom Post will set you back a minimum $5K, and that would be a deal and not on a Wednesday or Saturday. Some of those go for $20K plus. The Herald will be more expensive.

I will shoot for 5k. That means we only need 498 more contributors.

I've have thought it would just be much cheaper and effective to just boycot the advertisers.

My answer has just been to sign up for NetFlix and stop watching FTA.

I also spend my time promoting NetFlix to friends and helping them get on line with it.

Promote New Zealand - Get yourself a .kiwi.nz domain name!!!

Check out mine - i.am.a.can.do.kiwi.nz - don@i.am.a.can.do.kiwi.nz

True, Don. Still - the two aren't mutually exclusive. As per the topic of this thread, might I presume you're promoting access to global SVOD catalogs via DNS/VPN solutions?
