JPNZ:

"United States technology company Akamai has declined to say whether it accepts responsibility for the streaming problems that dogged Spark Sport's coverage of the RWC match between the All Blacks and South Africa on Saturday.

Akamai's US-based vice president of corporate communications, Christine Simeone, also declined to provide an account of what went wrong or an assurance that issues would not be repeated, instead deferring comment to Spark.

"Based on our conversations with Spark ... we agree that any questions about this situation are to be handled by Spark," she said."

Its an easy fix, all sports that have a Kiwi are free, i'll be into that. TVNZ can set up Sports . We can move funds from Health to cover that...

Has anyone applied for a partial refund?

I have, but have received no acknowledgement from SparkSport.

So I am not sure if that's because they aren't sending "thank you for your request" emails, or my request hasn't gone through.

Has anyone received any sort of notification after applying for a refund?

freitasm: And yet, for transparency, it would be good to see a post-mortem. Other companies do.

See the Cloudflare or GitHub engineering blogs for examples of how awesome this is!

I  applied for the partial. No conformation back either. Has not appeared on my CC yet.

I applied for the partial refund on Sunday, but haven't had any acknowledgement.

i would personally aliken it to 2D.

I've had quite a few conversations about this with folk from all areas (including many on geekzone), It all seems to center back to even with the best intentions, Spark is one of those big names that gets all the press.

Any little detail that sticks out, is quite often taken and twisted/stretched/assumed upon lately, Particularly when it comes to something as high profile as spark sport.

As an example... Around the vectoring stuff, i overshared slightly, nothing sensitive or anything like that, but because i provided a key detail, that was focused on and assumed to be the problem. It wasnt, but caused days worth of distractions for multiple people to clean up.

Sometimes sharing with IT folk is the worst..

Matt Huisman's kodi has just updated and lets you select the stream quality. That will come in handy when running it on a Raspberry Pi as the 3B+ could not quite handle the 7Mb stream when I have tested. Luckily I have a quad core desktop to run it on the main tv.

I got a full month credit when I complained about a previous issue I encountered. Took about 24h to get it sorted, but I imagine they may be overwhelmed with refund requests now.

Without this plugin, I don't think I could bear to watch Spark Sport for the Rugby, especially all 48 matches. Being able to fast forward, 10, then 30, then 60 seconds as opposed to the built in functionality of Spark Sport has been a massive thing. The guy will be getting a decent sized donation for ensuring I could watch sport at 60FPS and navigate properly.

One thing I am interested in hearing from others, during the "off peak" times, watching a game of Rugby where I FFWD and RWD is pretty instant, excellent really, however during more peak times, I am ending up with the sound coming in then maybe 2-3 seconds later the picture coming in. Happens natively in the SpSp App and via Kodi, so assume it's something on the platform.

Anyone else notice it?

Haven't noticed that personally - just streaming from Chrome on a notebook, but to be fair I don't use it heaps.

Also did anyone notice a difference in quality for SAM v RUS last night? It wasn't like the AB's game with clearly noticeable drops in quality, rather than the picture just wasn't as sharp despite KODI reporting 1080/60. It was almost like the camera was sometimes slightly out of focus and may have been some issue with the original broadcast. Overall the quality of the picture for the matches I have watched is very good. Comparable with Sky.

That sounds like what has happened here. Spark Sport have provided some vague and opaque tidbits of information which has led to this prolonged speculation.

IMHO if a proper detailed and transparent technical RFO was provided (and the mitigation plan) then it would have increased their technical reputation and respect amongst the IT community and also the general public.
