bugger pandora is the best music service to use on the amazon echo devices. spotify doesnt do radio on that, so you have to keep asking it to play artists/songs etc.

could be that it was just too difficult to continue in New Zealand. A pity really as though I did not listen often I enjoyed the music selection they provided.

Trying to get him to use something else is going to cause the extreme "Why does Technology changes all the time" rage.

Same as my Dad, He is gutted that its going. Ahh well i suppose ill be absorbing the cost for spotify family...

I see that Getflix (and I assume other DNS services) supports Pandora; while this hasn't been relevant for now, it'll soon be so.

So can anyone please confirm what we can do/need to do to continue access to Pandora, if we use a DNS service already.

I checked my Pandora account settings and can't see anything regarding location, so not sure if I can switch my current account to the US. Will I need to create a new account, pretending to be based in the US, and will Getflix then keep up the pretence when connected to the home network? (Don't care about access outside of the home.)

Do you hear US or NZ adds when connected via Getflix? If you hear US ads I guess it will just continue to work as is. Once they pull the plug in NZ it will probably just display an error, something like "Pandora is not available in your location" if not using DNS/vpn.

I guess we will not really know until the service in NZ actually stops. I just hope I don't loose my Radio station "thumbs up" music lists in the process. May pay to make a backup of them.

My biggest worry actually is that the Pandora app will disappear from the apple app store. Then it will get fiddly, and I will need to possibly register a US itunes account etc just to run the app on my iphone..

Good point - we hear US ads; they always crack me up (especially the gun sales at Walmart, I think it is). That's hopefully a good sign.

I was a bit confused when last night I noticed a "New Zealand music month" (or similarly titled) station on what I thought was Pandora (but thinking about it it may have been Spotify).

The US iTunes account thing isn't too big a hassle, as there have always been apps that have needed this approach - I set up one years ago to be able to download Netflix and, thinking about it, Pandora (as I've realised we were using it prior to it arriving in NZ) for our iPad.

That's annoying. I've been a paying customer for years.

I tried Spotify but really missed just being able to hit play / like / dislike. Any alternatives that work on PC / Android? That's probably another thread though.

I didnt get the email, and my pandora when I was paying was paid for on my US play store account so I am hoping it doesnt get closed. Will see if it keeps playing.

First pandora bought and killed rdio, now they are killing themselves off. Seem like amatures.

The other thing is you can use Pandora for free on echo. While with spotify, you need a paid subscription. Hope it will still work afterwards on the echo, as I think mine is using the US service, as I recall that my ads are US ones. I haven't received any email about it closing either.

But I guess this is the market consolidating, and the next step will be price rises. It would be pretty difficult now for a new entrant to enter the market.

I have received the email too. Really very sad about this because I like the Pandora model, where I can just pick a group/genre and it selects the tracks for me, without me having to know exactly what I want upfront - i.e. unlike Spotify. I was using the free version but I would pay for the basic Pandora model if I could to retain it. Picking say "Dire Straits Radio" and then adding to it with the "add variety" function is heaven.

IMO Sonos and Pandora were made for each other and between them they have revolutionised my music life.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

I emailed Holden today asking if they will be supplying a new music app for their cars (Currently their mylink system only has pandora).

New cars have android auto etc but cars released in 2016 etc still had the mylink system.

Would be nice if they did release a firmware with spotify as the replacement app.

Spotify has a radio feature also, where you thumbs up and thumbs down. I think IHeartRadio does too.

But the main thing with Spotify is playlists, Music authorities (and individuals) make playlists that update themselves, often based on Genres or Moods
